Fiat Argo is next-gen Punto
Fiat Argo is the name for the next-generation Punto. Fiat had introduced the Egea and then now it is time for the Argo. This will be based on an all new platform and there will be multiple upgrades too. What this will offer will be stylish, good features and even more space. A new modular platform that will be used to make this new hatchback and it will be making its debut in Brazil this June.
Fiat Argo – what is it about?
As this is an all new platform which is being developed in Brazil, this could be used for developing markets. From Brazil it is likely to be exported to all the left-hand drive markets that are similar to Brazil. With this, Fiat will be able to enhance its sales and get a higher volume. The new generation hatchback will be bigger in dimensions. It is believed to have about 2,500mm wheelbase, which will make its cabin spacious. This is the same hatchback that had been codenamed as X6H.
There have been a lot of Fiat Argo images floating on several South American car websites. The interiors seem to be all new and get some of its inspiration from the Fiat Tipo. As it does share some of the elements like the steering wheel and some other controls. This should be the new interior design language for the new-gen Fiats. There will be different driving modes in the car and one of them will be City Driving Mode too. There is also the new UConnect infotainment system as well.
Fiat Argo Engine and Transmission
For the Brazilian market, the plan is to continue with the 1.4-litre petrol engine that churns about 100bhp of power. Then there will even be the 1.8-litre E-Torq engine on offer as well. There are rumours that a third engine of 0.9-litre TwinAir could also be on offer on the new Argo.
Fiat Argo Coming to India?
We doubt it. There are multiple reasons for it:
- It is based on a new platform, which isn’t being considered for India as Fiat will stick on the SCA (small car architecture) platform for manufacturing all the new Fiats and Jeep models.
- The current focus is more on Jeeps, at least for the next two years. This means even if it comes, there is still some good time.
- If it comes, it will be engineered to be made on the SCA platform itself to reduce the cost. This is the only way, it could make it to India.
