The ‘Kitna Deti Hai’ mindset continues to plague the Indian car market. Though not as prominent as say a few years back, it continues to be a major point for a lot of people. If you want really good mileage then hybrid is the best option currently. We have some decent options like the Grand Vitara and HyRyder. However, there are upcoming hybrid cars you should wait for. In today’s article, let’s talk about upcoming high-mileage cars.

Nissan X-Trail

The Japanese manufacturer currently has only Magnite in its product portfolio. It needs new products to bring in the sales. Last year, it showcased the X-Trail in India, which comes with a variety of hybrid engine options. It comes with a mild hybrid that makes 188bhp and 250Nm of torque, the 2WD makes 201bhp and 330Nm of torque. Then we have an ‘e4orce version’ which produces 210bhp and 525Nm of torque. Nissan could ring the e4orce version to India. Feature-wise, it comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, driving modes, ADAS, panoramic sunroof etc. The Nissan X-Trail could be launched by the end of this year. Pricing-wise, it could start from somewhere from Rs 50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Upcoming high-mileage cars – New-gen Maruti Swift

Maruti is looking to bring hybrid technology to more of its cars. Currently, Maruti is working on the new-generation Swift. It has been spotted testing in Europe. According to reports, the new-gen Swift will come with a strong hybrid setup similar to the Grand Vitara. Yes, Maruti is developing a new 1.2-litre engine for the upcoming Swift and developing a new hybrid setup around it. This engine is codenamed ‘Z12E’ which could be seen first in the Swift hatchback. This hybrid setup could deliver a mind-boggling mileage of around 40kmpl. What about the launch? The New-gen Maruti Swift is expected to be launched sometime in 2024. The hybrid Swift should be expensive, but Maruti is trying to localise the battery to lower the costs. We think the new Swift will go from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

New-gen Maruti Dzire

Like the Swift, its sedan sibling Dzire is also going to get a major update. The ‘Z12E’ engine could make its way to the Dzire. We can expect a similar mileage on the Dzire. What about the updates? The Dzire could get a new design and interiors in this update. We can also expect several new features like a bigger infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera etc. The new-Dzire could be launched in a similar time frame to the Swift. Pricing-wise, the new-gen Dzire could start from Rs 8 lakh and go to Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Upcoming high-mileage cars – New-gen Toyota Fortuner

Upcoming high mileage cars

The Toyota Fortuner doesn’t need a separate introduction in the Indian market. It has single-handedly dominated the full-size SUV segment. Now Toyota wants to go for the kill by bringing in the new-generation Fortuner. The new-generation Fortuner is expected to come with a new design and several new features. It is also expected to come with a mild hybrid setup. This setup is expected to be its 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 48V battery pack. Toyota claims that it will offer 10% more efficiency than the non-hybrid variants. Other than the hybrid setup, the new-gen Fortuner could come with a new design and features. New features could include a panoramic sunroof, a bigger infotainment, digital instrument cluster and ADAS. What about the launch? Toyota is expected to launch the new Fortuner sometime in 2024. With the hybrid and new features, we can expect the price of Fortuner to touch Rs 70 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
