How quickly is the year going by? 2023 is flying past us, and we have a monthly sales report for yet another month. In July, we saw several new cars launched from Seltos facelift to Invicto. The month of July has seen decent enough growth compared to June. In this story, we list cars that heavily contributed to sales last month. Here is the list of top cars in July 2023.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – 17,896 units

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has reclaimed its spot at the top. The Swift sits in the sweet spot between entry-level hatchbacks and premium hatchbacks. It comes with a reliable 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 88bhp and 113Nm of torque. We also have a CNG option for mileage-conscious buyers. Maruti sold 17,896 units of the Swift in July. It recorded a major hike from the 15,955 units sold in June. The Swift is priced at Rs 7.03 lakh and going to Rs 10.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti’s premium hatchback has been doing well since its facelift was launched last year. In the facelift, Maruti added several new features justifying its premium tag. It comes with features like a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, 9.0-inch infotainment system etc. These features seem to have contributed well to its 16,725 sales figure in July. It so a major rise from the 14,077 units sold in June. The pricing of the Baleno starts from Rs 7.69 lakh and goes to Rs 11.41 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti Suzuki Brezza – 16,543 units

Maruti had a clean swipe at the podium spots in the list. Like the Baleno, the Brezza got a major update last year. It got new features like Arkamys sound system, Suzuki Connect, HUD, 360-degree camera, six airbags, electric sunroof, ESC, etc. What about the specs? It comes with a tried & tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (101bhp/136nm). Transmission options include a manual and an automatic gearbox. The Brezza recorded sales of 16,543 units in July, a major rise compared to the 10,578 units sold in June. The pricing of the Brezza starts from Rs 9.66 lakh and goes to Rs 16.62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – 14,325 units

The Ertiga has dominated the affordable 7-seater market for a lot of years. It has faced some competition with the Triber and Carens to some extent. The Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 101bhp and 136Nm of torque. Maruti sold 14,325 units of the Ertiga in July, a monumental rise from the 8,422 units sold in June. The pricing of the Ertiga starts from Rs 10.06 lakh and goes to Rs 15.39 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Hyundai Creta – 14,062 units

Finally breaking the Maruti monopoly is the Hyundai Creta. The Creta needs no separate introduction in India, such has been its dominance. Hyundai’s strategy of offering all types of engine, gearbox and trim options has certainly been a masterstroke on the Creta. The Creta also comes with features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, an air purifier, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting etc. Hyundai sold 14,062 units of the Creta in July, a minor drop from the 14,447 units sold in June. The Creta is priced at Rs 12.90 and going to Rs 23.03 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – 13,395 units

The Swift with boot, the Dzire has also made it on this list. The Dzire is the best-selling compact sedan, it has been the best-selling sedan in the country for some time now. The Dzire comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 88bhp and 113Nm of torque. It also comes with a CNG option suited to its larger boot space. Maruti sold 13,395 units of the Dzire in July 2023, a major rise from the 9,322 units sold in June 2023. The pricing of the Dzire starts from Rs 7.64 lakh and goes to Rs 10.93 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti’s gamble of bringing an SUV based on the Baleno seems to be working quite well. The higher ground clearance and SUV-like feel are surely attracting buyers to the Fronx. Its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is another thing attracting new buyers. What about features? It has all the features offered by Baleno like heads-up display, 360-degree camera, 9.0-inch infotainment etc. The Fronx saw a major sales hike with 13,220 units sold in July, compared to 7,991 units in June. The pricing of the Fronx starts from Rs 8.66 lakh and goes to Rs 15.37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti Suzuki WagonR – 12,970 units

The WagonR saw a massive slide in July. From being the best-selling car to 7th on this list is a major slide. Nevertheless, Maruti sold 12,970 units of the WagonR in July compared to 17,481 units in June. So why is the WagonR so popular? It is loved for its tall-boy design, offering great space for tall passengers. Other than that, it also has the Maruti reliability and service network. The WagonR pricing starts from Rs 6.48 lakh and goes to Rs 8.69 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Tata Nexon – 12,349 units

Again breaking the Maruti monopoly is the Tata Nexon. The Nexon is a well-rounded product considering that it comes with a powerful engine and also features. It comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Feature-wise, we have 7.0-inch infotainment, ventilated seats, electric sunroof etc. Tata sold 12,349 units of Nexon in July compared to 13,827 units in June. The minor sales dip could be due to the facelift rumour mill. Pricing-wise, the Nexon range starts from Rs 9.40 lakh and goes to Rs 17.61 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Top cars July 2023 – Maruti Eeco – 12,037 units

Rounding up the list is another Maruti car, the Eeco. It practically faces no competition in the utility segment and so its sales figures come as no surprise. Currently, the Eeco comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 80bhp and 104Nm of torque. It also comes with a CNG option. Maruti sold a staggering 12,037 units of the Eeco in July. In comparison, Maruti sold 9,354 units of Eeco in June. Pricing-wise, the Eeco starts from Rs 6.24 lakh and goes to Rs 7.41 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
