New-gen Fortuner engine specs revealed?

The Toyota Fortuner is one SUV that sells regardless of what it offers, just with its nameplate. Even with regular price hikes, Toyota rakes in around 2.5k to 3k sales, which is remarkable for a 55 lakh car. We all know Toyota is working on the new-generation Fortuner. Now engine specifications of the new-gen Fortuner have been revealed to some extent. In today’s article, let’s talk about the New-Gen Fortuner engine. 

Specifications

Toyota is conducting trials on the hybrid powertrain on a Hilux GR-S prototype at the WRC Safari Rally 2023 in Kenya. Toyota in a press release stated that it plans to launch a mild hybrid version of the Hilux. In this the 2.8-litre diesel engine gets paired with a 48V mild-hybrid tech and the company claims that the powertrain will be 10% more efficient than the non-hybrid variant. For the Hilux, Toyota claims that it will not impact the off-roading capabilities and towing capabilities. So this could be positive news for people waiting for the new-gen Fortuner. 

What else to expect?

The new-gen Fortuner is rumoured to be based on the TNGA-F platform that also underpins the Land Cruiser 300. Earlier this year, Toyota unveiled the Tacoma in the USA. The Tacoma pickup generally resembles close with the Hilux. This could mean the new-generation Fortuner could take inspiration from the Tacoma. So the Tacoma comes with muted front design compared to the current gen model. Overall we have smaller headlamps that don’t integrate into the grille. We have a grille with another strip on it housing the logo. At the back, we have C-shaped tail lamps and a new bumper design.

New Fortuner engine – When to expect?

Toyota is slowly releasing new information regarding the new-generation Fortuner. According to reports, the new Fortuner is still in the early stages of development. Going forward, Toyota will first start testing the car in Thailand and first launch the SUV there. What about the India launch? India launch could happen sometime in 2024.
