The Toyota Fortuner rules the big SUV segment in our market. Several SUVs have tried to dethrone the Fortuner, but with limited success. The Ford Endeavour did come close, but we know what happened with it. So can any SUV stop the dominance of the Fortuner? There is one SUV that could do that, the Nissan X-Trail. Last month Nissan unveiled the X-trail in India. In today’s article, let’s talk about this feature-loaded Fortuner rival.
Nissan showcased the 4th-generation X-Trail in India. This 4th-generation X-Trail is based on the new CMF-C platform (Common Module Factory) which is co-developed by Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi. Coming back to design, the X-Trail is quite an aggressive-looking car. Overall the car gets those big SUV characteristics with the signature V-motion front grille, body cladding etc.
New Fortuner rival – Specifications
The Nissan X-Trail measures 4,681mm in length, 1,840mm in width and has a height of 1,730mm. It sits on a wheelbase of 2706mm and has a 3-row seating layout. What about the engine specifications? Globally, the X-Trail gets a single 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine in three different hybrid options. These options include a mild-hybrid, a 2WD ‘e-Power variant’ and an ‘e4orce version’ with ‘e-power’. The mild-hybrid setup produces 188bhp and 250Nm of torque, the ‘2WD’ setup makes 201bhp and 330Nm of torque, and the AWD e4orce setup produces 210bhp and 525Nm of torque. The transmission option is only limited to a CVT automatic gearbox.
The X-Trail comes with plush interiors with a lot of soft-touch points. With features becoming a priority, Nissan had to load the X-Trail with features. So the X-Trail comes with features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, auto hold, driving modes, panoramic sunroof, ADAS etc.
New Fortuner rival – Launch and pricing
Nissan has already started testing the X-Trail in India. However, it has refrained from confirming a launch date. We think the launch could happen in the second half of 2023. What about its pricing? The pricing of the X-Trail could start from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). The X-Trail will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian etc.
