Maruti Suzuki was having the same issue as well. The Swift DZire has been a major success story for the company, and the second-gen became a compact sedan. There have been a lot of elements in it, which are like the Swift and hence the name. This time around, there has been a change from the regular Swift and hence it doesn’t even get the Swift moniker. The new Maruti DZire 2017 is here.
Based on Suzuki’s Heartect platform, this is an all new sedan. It is still a compact sedan, but it does have major changes in its dimensions. Be it the length, width and even height. The new sedan is a lot wider and this makes the new DZire look wider. At the same time the design is a lot more proportionate. The height has reduced and now it appears to be much bigger than before. The new chassis has seen a reduction in its weight by about 100 kilograms. A new Z+ variant has also been introduced on this new sedan.
A 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines continue to power the compact sedan. There is no change in the engine and even the power rating, however as it is lighter there is a change in its power. At the same time, both the options have five-speed manual and AMT options. This gives an advantage to those who are looking at getting an automatic version on the petrol or the diesel.

There has been a change in the pricing of the new DZire 2017, but this is majorly for the new added variants. At the same time, the DZire will be offering some new features, which weren’t offered. So, if we consider that, then the price increase isn’t a lot. Expect for the new Z+ variant, which gets a lot more features and even Z+ AMT, which even has two-pedal technology. Now, dual airbags and ABS has been made as a standard feature on all the variants.

The new Swift DZire 2017 is based on an all new platform, which is called as Heartect. This is the same underpinnings that is also shared with the Baleno as well. The platform is lighter as it uses high tensile strength steel, which is not just lighter but even stronger. At the same time, the width is more so the driving dynamics will see an improvement.
The fascia of the new DZire looks a lot more stylish and appealing. The overall design now looks proportionate and it doesn’t seem to look like a compromised sedan. The design is balanced and it looks mature too. The fascia is dominated by a large front grille and there is chrome surround too.
The side profile looks a lot more balanced. There are multiple bits on the new DZire that look like an evolution of the outgoing Swift DZire. For instance, the rear. This does look a lot similar to that of the previous-gen. The paint quality has seen an improvement. Maruti has worked out not just the design but even the quality. The tail lamps with LEDs now looks so much rich than ever. Good job done by the Maruti Suzuki team for the new DZire 2017.

The interiors are beige and the dash has black and beige layout. There are been a change in the quality of materials that are being used on the car.
There has been an improvement in the quality of materials. The matt wood finish does stand out and this is when the DZire has seen an improvement in its quality. The wood finish looks so premium and it does stand out. There are some bits which do not feel that good, but in look all the elements have seen an improvement.
When we speak of the space, there is more than sufficient row for three people are the back. The new DZire is wider than ever and this has increased the shoulder room at the back. The increase in wheelbase has also improved the space on the back seat, especially the knee room.

A 2-DIN music system is offered from V variant. This offers USB, aux-input, Bluetooth and even mp3. There are even steering mounted controls and four door speakers. The Z variant gets tweeters too, for better sound quality. Then up next is the Z+ variant, this has touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and even voice command.

The boot is much larger than before. This is what makes it a better product than before. In the previous car, boot space was too little.
The safety features on offer include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and even brake assist. There is also ISOFIX on all the variants, which makes it a good option to consider. The other features on offer include the front seat belt with pre-tensioners, immobilizer, force limiter, seat belt warning lamps. Key left warning and door open warning are a part of this list.
In the V variant, the additional features are day and night adjustable IRVM, speed sensitive door locking and anti-theft security system.
Z offers reverse parking sensor, front fog lamps, rear defogger as additional features.
The Z+ also offers some additional features too. There is reverse camera with guide that is an extra over the Z variant.
There are no changes in the engine’s layout or design. The new DZire still has the same 1.2-litre K-Series, four-cylinder engine that churns about 83bhp of power and 115Nm of peak torque. There is more than sufficient power in this engine to drive in comfort and overtake as well. The AMT on this engine is amazing as there is minimal lag and it is responsive.
The car will have better performance due to its light weight. The drivability will be good too. The engine has good enough torque to drive in comfort and even to overtake on highways with ease. The new Maruti DZire 2017 will have more power. There will be the same 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine has good performance too, but it is a tad noisy. At the same time, the AMT on the diesel can be a bit more responsive. Our pick is the petrol manual and AMT. The diesel engine has a 1.3-litre DDiS, four-cylinder diesel engine making 75bhp of power and 190Nm of maximum torque. Both the engines come with five-speed manual and AMT options. The AMT option is not available in the LXi and LDi variants.
|Petrol in City||14 km/l|
|Petrol on Highway||18 km/l|
|Diesel in city||17 km/l|
|Diesel on Highway||24 km/l|
The DZire has an advantage over the rest in terms of mileage. As the car has lost about 105 kilograms, this is what makes it lighter. The same platform also underpins the Baleno’s premium hatchback. The reduced weight means better performance and improved mileage also. This makes it the most fuel-efficient car in the country with an economy of 28.4 km/l. Petrol has also seen an increase in its mileage to 22km/l, for both manual and AMT versions.

As the new Heartect platform is used, it has reduced the weight of the car by about 105 kilograms, making it quicker, agile and efficient.
Should you buy?
The improvement has been in styling, design, features, quality and even drivability. This is what makes the new DZire a much superior product to what it was until now. The major downsides of the DZire were its boot space, rear seat spacing, quality and even features. All these have been handled and the vehicle is now a lot more feature-loaded and has seen a major jump in its quality as well. So, the DZire is certainly one of the best products around.
