2024 Mahindra XUV500 – is it coming back?

For a manufacturer that primarily focuses on SUVs, it is surprising that Mahindra doesn’t have an SUV in the C-SUV segment. Currently, this is the most fiercely fought-out segment, with SUVs from almost all manufacturers. Only Tata and Mahindra don’t have a car here from the top manufacturers. In this too, Tata has already revealed the Curvv, which will slot into this segment. What about Mahindra? Mahindra has also stated plans to enter here with a familiar nameplate. In today’s article, let’s talk about the 2024 Mahindra XUV500. 

What do we know so far?

According to media reports, Mahindra plans to bring back the XUV500 nameplate on a smaller SUV compared to the XUV700. This makes sense as it currently doesn’t have a C-SUV product. It would make sense from a naming point of view too, as the XUV300 is the compact SUV, XUV500 would become the C-SUV and the XUV700 will be the mid-size offering. The XUV500 could be based on the same platform as the XUV300 and could be extended a bit like it did on the XUV400. 

Expectations

Without any sightings, it is hard to speculate on the design. We can expect an aggressive design language like the XUV700. In the interiors and features, we can expect a feature-loaded cabin like the XUV700. What about the specifications? Mahindra could use the 1.5-litre TGDi engine it showcased at the Auto Expo of 2020. This engine is capable of producing 163bhp and 280Nm, making it one of the most powerful cars in this segment. Diesel duties will be handled by the 1.5-litre diesel engine like the XUV300 but with better tuning. 

2024 Mahindra XUV500 – Launch timeline

Mahindra has been quite tightlipped about the XUV500 project. It has given some hints that it is working on the new XUV500 but has refused to state a fixed timeline. We are yet to spot a test mule of the car, and that would mean the launch is still far away. Maybe we could see the new XUV500 by the end of 2024 or 2025. Mahindra will be looking to bring a disruptive product like the XUV700 to this segment.
