Maruti is working on a sleeve of SUVs that will launch in the next two to three years. One of these SUVs is the Baleno Cross, codenamed ‘YTB’. The YTB is a crossover version of the Baleno with a sloping roofline, giving it the coupe characteristics. It could get eyebrow DRLs like the recently unveiled Grand Vitara. According to reports, it could be powered by a Booster Jet turbo petrol engine. When will it be launched? The YTB is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023. The launch is said to happen in the first quarter of 2023

Tata is riding high on its SUV sales and is looking to expand even more in this segment. Tata is gearing up to take on the Hyundai Creta with a coupe SUV. This SUV will be based on the Tata Curvv concept unveiled earlier this year. What will it get? Tata will be looking to retain as many design elements as possible from the concept car. It will also come loaded with features to take on the established players in this segment. What about specifications? Tata has confirmed that the Curvv will come in EV and ICE options. The Curvv EV will be launched first sometime in 2024, followed by the ICE version.

Mahindra XUV900/XUV1000

Like Tata, Mahindra is also working on some coupe SUVs for the Indian market. According to new media reports, Mahindra is working on an ICE and EV derivative of a planned coupe SUV. The ICE derivative could be called the XUV900, while the electric derivative could be called the XUV1000. So, will they be similar cars? No. The XUV900 will be based on the XUV700 platform, while the XUV1000 will be a ground-up EV based on a skateboard platform. These two coupe SUVs could heat up the game in this new segment.

Upcoming Coupe SUVs in India- Renault Arkana

Unlike other brands, Renault already has a coupe SUV in its global portfolio. This SUV is called the Arkana, which has been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions. According to reports, Renault is evaluating it for the Indian market. What does it get? The Arkana takes design elements from the now-discontinued Captur. It gets C-shaped LED DRLs like other modern Renault cars.

Globally, the Arkana comes with two petrol engines – a 1.3-litre unit with mild hybrid setup and a 1.6-litre with strong hybrid setup. What about pricing? The Arkana if launched will come through the CBU route and will be more expensive when compared to its rivals.
