Maruti Suzuki YTB
Maruti is working on a coupe SUV based on its Baleno. This car has been spotted in disguise and the looks are identical to its premium hatchback sibling. Keeping the body design aside, this new car can get distinctive broad wheel arches, a larger grille, and the inevitable higher ground clearance for highlighting the SUV characteristics. Talking about the equipment package, it must be packed with the same feature list as the Baleno. We are also expecting it to have a sunroof, something that the Baleno misses. This coupe SUV is expected to come powered by Maruti’s Booster Jet engine. As far as launch is concerned, it is said to happen in the initial months of 2023.
Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus
Next SUV on today’s list is the new Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus. This one would be identical to its predecessor, the TUV 300 Plus, however, with styling elements borrowed from the Bolero Neo. This SUV is said to be made available in 7-seater & 9-seater configurations. Side-facing seats in the third row are expected. It is expected to come powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine capable of producing 120bhp & 280Nm of torque. When can it see a launch? Mostly next year.
Maruti Jimny 5-door
To offer a more value-for-money option in the lifestyle off-roader segment, Maruti is set to bring 5-door variant of the Jimny. The new Jimny is expected to offer 3rd-row seating options that can be practical for a varied group of buyers. If rumours are to be believed, the Jimny would be made available in 6-seater & 7-seater options. Spotted in heavy camouflage, testing of the car is in progress to rationalize different aspects of the Indian market. Maruti is touted to showcase the car during Auto Expo 2023 and launch it in the months following the event.
Upcoming SUVs under Rs 13 lakh – Hyundai’s Tata Punch rival
Codenamed the ‘Ai3’, Hyundai is working on a new micro-SUV which will be pit against the segment leading Tata Punch. Hyundai is working closely to identify the needs of buyers in this segment. As of now, the details about this car are minimal. However, if speculations are to be believed, this micro SUV will come based on Hyundai Grand i10 Nios’ platform. Two petrol engine options – 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines are expected to be borrowed from the hatchback itself. We can also expect the 1.2-litre diesel engine to be on offer as it could give Hyundai a major advantage over its main competitor.
Upcoming SUVs under Rs 13 lakh – Honda compact SUV
Currently, having no proper car in this segment, Honda plans to turn over a new leaf with the launch of this car. There are reports that Honda is done with designing, so only powertrain options are remaining. Based on the Amaze platform, this SUV is highly likely to share the same engine and gearbox options from the compact sedan.
