Maruti has been working on the Jimny 5-door for India for quite some time now. Frequent spotting of test mules in heavy camouflages is a clear evidence of that. The Jimny 5-door is expected to have a proper bench seat at the rear and two small seats in the last row. Moreover, the brand is touted to make this lifestyle SUV available in 6-seater & 7-seater configurations. The 5-door version will have a 300mm increase in wheelbase than the standard 3-door model, which will result in better legroom for the second-row passengers. Expected to be powered by the new K15C Dual Jet engine and the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, it could be offered with 4×4 as well as mild hybrid fuel-saving technology. Now, why two engine options? Force Gurkha 5-door
Force has decided to attract more buyers to the brand by offering a 5-door version of the Gurkha. Gurkha already is a rugged vehicle and adding more practicality to it is a sensible decision for the brand as well as the buyers. The 5-door Gurkha would host seating in the third row as well with side-facing seats and could come in 6 to 9 seater options. Other notable changes in the car are the bigger 18-inch alloy wheels. The engine is expected to remain the same. Now, the car has already been spotted testing on quite many occasions. This means that the launch could be imminent.

The hot-selling Thar currently comes with a 3-door configuration but Mahindra has confirmed that it is working on the 5-door Thar as well. The 5-door variant would be based on the Scorpio-N platform. This 5-door version would be more spacious on the inside and could get increased back-row seating comfort. Mahindra would continue to offer 4×4 on this one but it is expected to be kept optional in order to reduce the starting price of this SUV. Feature-wise it is expected to have an ample amount of features as the main purpose of this vehicle is to be a lifestyle off-roader.
Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus
The Bolero Neo Plus from Mahindra would not be a new car built from the scratch. Rather, it would be a redeveloped version of the TUV300 Plus that will get a tweaked front fascia and some minor design changes at the sides and rear of the vehicle. It is expected to continue with Mahindra’s 2.2-litre diesel engine with a single five-speed manual gearbox. The Bolero Neo Plus is touted to come with 7-seater and 9-seater options.
Toyota Innova HyCross
Toyota is planning to launch the Innova in a completely new avatar. A lot of elements would change with the new HyCross. First, it is touted to get a petrol hybrid-only model. Based on the GA-C platform of Toyota, the HyCross could be powered by a 2.0-litre engine that will work in conjunction with the battery for a hybrid drive. This Innova is expected to be powered at the front wheels and will come based on a monocoque chassis setup. This is a big change for an MPV the has always been known for its robustness and reliability. However, being a Toyota, it is expected to continue with the reliability factor.

Tata’s flagship SUV is touted to get a facelift in 2023 and we are expecting new features and a new petrol engine to be on offer. Since its direct head-to-head competitor, the Mahindra XUV700 comes with all the bells and whistles, the Tata Safari too could get major updates like a bigger infotainment system, 360-degree camera, ADAS and improved suspension upgrade for better off-roading capability. Talking about the petrol engine, Safari could get the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit similar to what is expected for the Harrier facelift.
New Maruti Eeco
India’s favourite van is getting a refresh after a long time. Currently available with a plethora of variants to choose from, the Eeco enjoys a monopoly in its segment. Getting a fresh update, Eeco is finally set to get power steering which was missing from the existing model and some design updates to make it look like a van from the contemporary period. Maruti is expected to continue offering the Eeco with CNG and other iterations of it like the Eeco Cargo, Eeco Ambulance, etc.
