The seven-seater segment has seen a lot of activity in the last 12 to 15 months. We have seen multiple affordable as well as premium seven-seaters launch. Even with the launch of Kia Carens, Maruti continues to dominate the affordable seven-seater segment with the Ertiga and XL6. But Maruti doesn’t want to stay restricted to this segment. The brand now wants to take on some premium seven-seater SUVs. With a new car, Maruti wants to take on the likes of Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. So what is Maruti’s plan? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Maruti Safari rival.

Maruti’s plan

As mentioned above, Maruti wants to target the premium seven-seater segment. So why does Maruti want to enter the premium segment? Of late, Maruti has been aiming to upgrade its image from an affordable car manufacturer to a premium SUV maker. We have seen this with the unveil of the Grand Vitara. Also, Maruti has been adding modern features to its cars to improve the premium quotient of its cars.

The Safari rival is touted to be based on the Ertiga platform with some modifications. This SUV will most probably become the brand’s flagship SUV in the Indian market once launched. What engine options could it get? This is hard to guess considering Maruti lacks powerful engine options for such an SUV. With that being said, we expect Maruti to make hybrid options the strong point for this product. This is similar to what we have seen with the Grand Vitara.

Other SUVs

Maruti has seen the growth of the SUV segment in the past few years and aims to launch an SUV in all segments. The first of these will be the launch of the Grand Vitara. After that, we could see the Baleno Cross. According to reports, Maruti could unveil it at the Auto Expo 2023. After the Baleno Cross, Maruti could launch the much-awaited Jimny 5-door in India. What about the Safari rival? The Safari rival is still in its early stages of development, so it is hard to speculate about its launch. Maruti will also be stepping up its EV game with a mid-size electric SUV.
