Recent media reports suggest that Royal Enfield is working on the new 350 cc and 650 cc motorcycles. If these reports are to be believed it might give us the hint for the scrambler version of the 650 twins. Royal Enfield has 650 cc roadster (Interceptor 650) and cafe-racer (Continental GT 650), so by bringing the scrambler 650, RE will be able to complete its trio portfolio quite efficiently. So what will it be then? Well, let’s find it out.

Character

If the RE Scrambler 650 takes the shape, then it will surely be getting many of the scrambler characteristics. It will surely have slightly raised handlebars compared to the Interceptor 650.

So, it will offer a more comfortable riding posture.

To enhance the scrambler nature, it might be getting block pattern tyres or off-road tyres. One more characteristic, the scrambler posses is the high ground clearance, so to offer that RE might use a different set of suspension setup to increase the ground clearance. The modern scramblers possess LED headlamps, which should also be the case with the RE Scrambler 650.

Hardware

Royal Enfield Scrambler 650

Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 will surely have the same engine as of the Interceptor 650 and Continental 650. It is a 648 cc two-cylinder, fuel-injected, oil-cooled unit producing about 47 bhp max power and 52 Nm of peak torque. Other than the engine, it might be also sharing the brakes and wheels from the 650 twins. The braking duty on the 650 twins is done by the 320 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear. The wheels are 18-inch spoke type, that might be the case with Scrambler 650 too, however, many other scramblers do have alloy wheels as well.

Pricing

The pricing of the RE Scrambler 650 will surely stand out. The bike is likely to be slightly expensive than the Continental GT 650; however, it will still come at a very attractive price point. It will be competing against other scramblers in the market such as Ducati Scrambler, Benelli Leoncino 500 and Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 to some extent. Nevertheless, we are really excited about this bike and hope the reports to be true.
