Royal Enfield engines have not been the strongest point of the bike. Although recently the company has made quit a bit of improvement on the engine which keeps them from falling prey to the emissions norms trap. The power that gets generated with these engine as compared to the cubic capacity is really low. Nevertheless, RE has developed some completely new engines in recent times. So what all engines do RE manufacture? well, let’s find it out.

350 cc

Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 Chrome

This sub 350 cc engine is the most popular and even the smallest Royal Enfield engine in current times. The engine is a 346 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected, air-cooled engine. It produces around 19.1 bhp max power at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine was first developed in the year 1955 and with the time it went some upgrades such as different ECU’s, block materials, etc to match the standards. The engine currently comes mated with a 5-speed gearbox with the lever on the left side. The engine is seen on the RE Bullet 350, Classic 350, and Thunderbird 350. However, Thunderbird 350 is currently discontinued and is expected to be replaced with the upcoming Royal Enfield Meteor. The claimed top speed of the 350 cc lineup is from 115-130 km/hr depending on the variant you buy. It’s been reported that the engine returns about 35 km/l on average riding conditions.

411 cc

RE Himalayan

The 411 cc engine of RE Himalayan is not popular as of the 350 cc but it has been appreciated by the touring enthusiasts. The engine is a fuel-injected, air-cooled unit producing around 24.3 bhp max power at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. It comes with a 5-speed gearbox. The engine was completely developed from the ground level and takes little to no parts from RE’s other engines. The engine easily manages to cruise at 90-110 km/hr. Owner claimed mileage of the RE Himalayan is around 30 to 36 km/l which is good enough.

650 cc

Royal Enfield Interceptor

The sub 650 cc engine is the newly developed engine by the manufacturer. The engine is a 648 cc air+oil-cooled, 8v, parallel-twin fuel-injected unit. It produces nearly 47 bhp max power at 7250 rpm and 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm. It comes mated with a 6-speed gearbox and also comes with a slipper clutch. Its the most powerful Royal Enfield engine in the lineup. The engine is shared with the RE Interceptor and RE Continental GT. The engine has a massive power which results in the claimed top speed of 161 km/hr. The owner reported mileage of the 650 cc RE bikes is around 25-28 km/l.

Royal Enfield is one of the old bike manufacturers around the globe. The manufacturer has discontinued its several engines till now. The latest discontinuation was of its 500 cc engine that was available with Classic 350, Bullet 350 and Thunderbird 350. In the near future, we can expect Royal Enfield to develop more engines.
