Motorcycle enthusiasts would not forget the Bajaj Pulsar SS 400. The bike that was supposed to launch before the Dominar 400 but somehow it didn’t. The plan of this supersport Pulsar was replaced with the smaller RS 200 Pulsar. So what if the bike was launched, what could we have been offered then.

Performance

The Bajaj Pulsar SS 400 was showcased as a concept back in 2014 Auto Expo. It was showcased along with the CS 400. The CS 400 or currently Dominar 400 has taken a shape and has been quite successful sports tourer across India. Both the Bajaj CS 400 and SS 400 were to share the same engine or powertrain. So the bike would have been equipped with 373 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine that produces around 38.8 bhp max power and 35 Nm of peak torque. The engine would have been mated with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. The Dominar 400 is quite appreciated for its performance so that would also have been the case with Bajaj Pulsar SS 400.

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200

Coming towards the design, the bike looks the same as the current RS 200. The bike has split headlight setup with projector headlamps. From the rear, it would have a similar LED taillight setup. As the RS 200 is the replaced product of SS 400, so the bike looks massive when compared to other faired 200 cc motorcycles.

Cycle Parts

The bike would have shared a lot of cycle parts with Dominar 400 and Pulsar RS 200. The suspension setup might have been similar to the Dominar’s USD forks at front and mono-shock suspension at the rear. The Braking duty would have been similar to the Dominar 400 at 230 mm disc at front and 230 mm disc at the rear. As both RS 200 and Dominar 400 has dual-channel ABS same would have been the case with the SS 400. The alloy wheel design is much suited of the Bajaj RS 200.

Bajaj Pulsar SS 400 Features

The instrument cluster of the Dominar 400 would have been much suited on the Bajaj Pulsar SS 400. The instrument cluster is fully-digital with a negative display unit, it shows all the much-needed information. If it had the inclusion of the bungee strap, similar to the Dominar 400, it would have made it a nice practical super sport-tourer.

Pulsar SS 400 Price

The bike was supposed to be a bit expensive than the Dominar 400. Currently, Bajaj Dominar 400 is priced at Rs 1.92 lakhs (x-showroom). So the price of the Bajaj Pulsar SS 400 would have been somewhere around 2.1 lakhs (ex-showroom). If the Bajaj Pulsar SS 400 would have turned into reality, the bike will surely have smashed other fully-faired motorcycles with a larger margin. It would have competed against TVS Apache RR 310, KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300. However, we still hope that in the near future the SS 400 would turn into reality.
