Mahindra grabbed all the headlines in August with its Futurescape event. In that event the Thar.e concept and also its Global Pik Up concept. At the event, it also shared the launch timelines of its upcoming Born Electric cars. One of the first Born Electric cars will be the XUV.e8. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra XUV.e8.

Design

Mahindra showcased the concept version last year. Earlier this year, the patent design of the XUV.e8 surfaced online. This patented design was quite similar to the concept version. It had the bonnet-wide DRL with headlamps placed lower. In the side profile, the XUV.e8/XUV800 looks almost identical to the XUV700. It also continues with the aerodynamic alloy wheel design and production-ready ORVMs. The rear was not revealed in this patent design, but we could see connected tail lamps.

Mahindra XUV.e8 – Interior and features

The XUV.e8 concept had a colossal screen covering the whole dashboard.  At the Futurescape event, Mahindra revealed its end-to-end screen layout. In this layout, we have three 12.3-inch screens covering the entire dashboard. All of these screens come with a high-resolution display. All the sounds in Mahindra Born Electric cars will be made by AR Rahman. Other features could include a HUD with augmented reality, new connected car features, an advanced navigation system, and more.

Specifications

At its Futurescape event, Mahindra finally revealed the expected specifications of the Born Electric cars. It revealed three options – a front powertrain with an 80kW motor with 135Nm of torque. The other two are rear powertrains – one with a 210kW and the other with a 180kW motor. The brand claimed these are estimated figures and could vary in the future. Also, the Inglo platform comes with a front-mounted steering rack that should give a major improvement in understeer.

Mahindra XUV.e8 – Launch and pricing

At the unveiling of Thar.e and Global Pik Up, Mahindra stated that it plans to launch the first Born Electric car by 2024. This car is going to be the XUV.e8 with an expected launch by December 2024. What about the pricing? We could expect a starting price somewhere around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 28 lakh (ex-showroom).
