The Mahindra Thar has become the mainstay in the lifestyle SUV segment. It even forced Maruti to bring the much anticipated Jimny 5-door. Maruti is also working on electrifying the Jimny, so how would Mahindra remain behind? Today it unveiled the Thar.e electric concept at the event held in Capetown. In today’s article, let’s talk about all the details of Mahindra Thar Electric.

Thar EV

The Mahindra Thar EV is based on the customised version of the INGLO platform known as the P1, so no ladder on frame chassis. Mahindra has tried to retain the iconic silhouette of the ICE Thar. The Thar.e will have a wheelbase between 2,775mm and 2,975mm. Mahindra claims that the Thar EV comes with a best-in-class apporach angle, departure angle, ramp-over angle and water wading. It will share its battery and motor with other Born Electric cars.

Interiors

The Thar.e showcased here comes with the 5-door layout. It continues with the rugged theme in the interiors. We have a sculpted dashboard that comes with a big touchscreen in the middle. Adjacent to it, we have a three-spoke chunking-looking steering wheel with the Thar.e badging in the centre. We also have a digital instrument cluster. The Centre console is very unique with a clean layout. Other highlights include green colour seats and a large window area.

Mahindra Thar EV – launch details

Mahindra Thar EV

Mahindra has just showcased the Thar.e. So can we expect a production version? Only Mahindra can tell us, as not all concept cars come to fruition. Even if it is launched, it is not coming anytime soon. Mahindra has slated the launch of Be.07 for October 2026. We don’t expect the Thar.e to be launched before the Be.07. We can expect a starting price of Rs 18 to 20 lakh (ex-showroom) on the Thar.e.
