Sportiest Mahindra SUV coming soon?

Mahindra is known for its big butch SUVs. This strategy has certainly helped it grow in the Indian market. But now Mahindra wants to try something new with a sleeker and more aerodynamic SUV. Yes, we are talking about coupe SUVs. It has already showcased that with its Born Electric car. Now Mahindra also has plans to bring a ICE coupe SUV that could be called the XUV900. What do we know so far?

In 2021, Mahindra showcased its 9 SUV plan. In the monocoque section, we have the already launched XUV700 and three other cars. One of them is W620 which was the codename given to the XUV900. The XUV900 will be the production version of the Aero concept Mahindra showcased at the Auto Expo of 2016. The XUV900 could be similar in size to the XUV700. 

What to expect?

The XUV900 should be radically different from the showcased Aero concept. We could see a front design similar to the XUV700 with C-shaped DRLs and an aggressive grille design. The side profile will be unique with the tapering C-pillar. To enhance the look, Mahindra could give it sporty bumpers, side skirts and maybe a spoiler. Under the hood, we can expect the workhorses – 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. Mahindra could tune them differently to extract even more power. 

XUV900 Mahindra – When to expect?

Mahindra has its hands filled with several launches. It recently unveiled the Scorpio Pik Up and Thar.e concepts. Mahindra has stated it plans to launch the W620 sometime between 2024 to 2027. Considering the car is yet to be spotted, launch next year looks a bit too ambitious. However, 2025 looks like a good launch window for the XUV900. Mahindra will have to squeeze it between the XUV.e8 and the XUV.e9.
