Tata Motors showcased a series of products in the Auto Expo 2023. They even went ahead showcasing the ICE version of the Curvv and electric version of their mid-size SUV, the Harrier. Along with these products, Tata Motors also revealed their new powertrain, a 1.2-litre and a 1.5-litre TGDI petrol engine. But will the petrol engine make its way to the new Harrier? We answer that in today’s article.

Tata’s 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre TGDI Petrol Engines

Tata's 1.2-Litre and 1.5-litre TGDI Engines

Before jumping to if the new Harrier will get a petrol engine or not, let’s first dive into the specifications of these two engines.

The first one is the 1.2-Litre TGDI engine which might replace the outgoing 1.2-Litre turbo petrol engine or may even co-exist. The new 1.2-Litre engine will produce 123bhp and 225Nm of torque.

The other unit is the 1.5-Litre TGDI engine and that is what we are excited about. This engine will produce a healthy 167bhp and 280Nm of torque. But will the 1.5-Litre engine make its way in the new Harrier? Well, it may in future, but we think it won’t be anytime soon.

Both these engines are expected to debut with the ICE versions of the Tata Curvv. Now Tata Motors has already confirmed that Curvv will be first launched in an electric avatar and then in ICE version. And the expected launch of Tata Curvv could happen in late 2024, while the Harrier facelift is expected to launch by the end of this year or early next year.

So, all the Harrier lovers out there who were eager for petrol powertrain in the facelift will have to wait a bit longer. We think the Harrier facelift will miss out on the petrol engine at launch. However, it could get the petrol engine once the Curvv ICE is launched in 2024. Still this are just speculations and there is still a outside chance we could see a petrol engine on the Harrier facelift.

As of now the new Harrier will continue with the same 2.0-Litre diesel engine. The unit is capable of producing 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Also, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter transmission.

New Tata Harrier – Highlights

New Tata Harrier

The new Harrier is expected to carry the design cues of the Harrier EV which was showcased in the Auto Expo 2023. So the front fascia will be updated with redesigned headlamp setup and bumpers. Also the facelift is expected to come with LED headlights.

On the side the design will remain more or less the same and the only possible change would be the alloy wheel design.

The rear could also see major revisions. We expect redesigned tail lamps and rear bumpers along with vertical housing for the reflectors. Also, thanks to the spy shots of the test mule of Tata Safari, the SUV was seen with connected tail lamps. So we could see the similar treatment on the Harrier facelift as well.

Interior

Along with the exterior we are expecting changes in the interiors too. Few spy shots have revealed some changes in the interior along with an all new steering wheel. The steering wheel design looks very similar to the Sierra concept that we saw in the Auto Expo 2023.

The feature list will also be updated. We expect the new Harrier to be equipped with a big infotainment system, updated graphics for the digital instrument cluster, rotary-styled gear knob, voice assisted sunroof, and LED headlamps.

New Tata Harrier – Launch

The launch of the Harrier facelift is expected to happen by the end of this year. Both Harrier and Safari can be seen testing extensively and expect Tata Motors to launch them together or maybe the Harrier would launch first, followed by the Safari. Also, with such heavy updates the prices will witness a hike from the outgoing models. We could see a price hike of Rs 60k to 70k on the current price range of Rs 18.70 lakh to Rs 29.87 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
