MG recently launched the Astor in this segment to take on the segment leaders like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The Astor does have its strong points, but still, should you buy the Seltos? This unit comes mated to manual, iMT and CVT gearboxes. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol makes 138bhp and 242Nm of torque. This unit comes with a manual and a DCT gearbox. The third engine is the 1.5-litre diesel capable of making 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. This unit comes mated to manual and a torque converter gearbox. 

The Astor comes with two petrol engines; a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine options. The 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit is capable of producing 108bhp and 144Nm of torque. This engine comes with a manual and a CVT gearbox option. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit is capable of producing 140bhp and 220Nm of torque. This engine only comes with an automatic gearbox. 

Features

The Seltos comes loaded with features. Some prominent features include a 360-degree camera, electric sunroof, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, Bose sound system, heads-up display, wireless charging, paddle shifters, wireless phone connectivity and ventilated seats.

The Astor comes with features like a 360-degree camera, a 10.1-inch infotainment system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, personal AI assistant, connected car tech and a six-speaker sound system. Astor also comes with the Advanced Driver Assistance system (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, rear-drive assist and speed assist systems.

The pricing of the Seltos starts from Rs 11.64 lakh and goes to Rs 21.81 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). While, the pricing of the Astor starts from Rs 11.44 lakh and goes to Rs 20.60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Should you buy the Seltos over the Astor?

The Seltos does have its USP. It comes loaded with multiple modern features. Also, the availability of a diesel engine is a big plus point. Moreover, if you are a family of five, the Seltos will offer better seating space in the second-row when compared to the Astor. However, if you are looking for a car that offers better safety and quality, you should give preference to the Astor. The availability of ADAS on the Astor is a forward step in the direction of safety assistance as well.
