Volkswagen is an aspirational brand in the Indian market. Volkswagen cars are famous for their premium feel and driver-focused cars. In India, the Polo has been the best selling car for Volkswagen. But, sadly, it has become outdated as Volkswagen has not updated it for some time now. Globally the Polo got a new generation in 2017. It even got a facelift in 2021. Exterior design
The new generation follows a similar design language to the current Polo. At the front, it gets a sharp and sleek look. It gets a curved LED headlamp design with a LED strip running through the grille connecting both the headlamps. The side profile gets sharp lines to carry the front look. At the rear, it gets tail-lamps similar to other Volkswagen cars like the T-Roc. It gets diamond cut alloy wheels.

The new generation Polo also gets updated interiors. It gets a modern dashboard layout with premium looking interiors. The dashboard gets rectangular AC vents with big touchscreen infotainment in the middle. The infotainment screen is tilted towards the driver side for better usability. Other than this, it gets a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and digital instrument cluster.
Specifications
The new generation Polo will be based upon the MQ AO IN platform. Globally the new generation Polo comes with various engine options from 1.0-litre to 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. In India, Volkswagen will use the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and the 1.5-litre engine, the same engines that power the Taigun. Transmission options will include a manual, torque convertor and a DSG gearbox.
Rs 8 lakh hatchback features
Volkswagen will load the Polo with a lot of features. It will get features like a 10-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, dual climate zone, electronically adjustable heated ORVMs and ambient lighting. Globally, the Polo even gets driver-assists like adaptive cruise control and lane assist. If Volkswagen brings this to India, it can revolutionize this segment.
Expected launch and pricing
Volkswagen has been hinting about this new generation for some time, but currently, there is no confirmation from Volkswagen regarding the launch. The pricing of the new-generation Polo is expected to start from Rs 8.00 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz.
