Skoda and Volkswagen have been working on several new products; cars like the Kushaq, Taigun and the upcoming Virtus and Slavia being some of them. With this product line-up, Skoda and Volkswagen are moving in the right direction. Volkswagen is also evaluating to replace the Polo with its new generation, which will be localised. If Volkswagen does release the new Polo, Skoda may bring Fabia to India as they have no cars in the hatchback segment. It could help Skoda attract new consumers. Today’s article will deal with whether Skoda Fabia could make a comeback in India.
Skoda Fabia specifications (abroad)
Globally, Skoda recently unveiled the fourth generation of the Fabia. The car is based on Skoda’s MQB-AO platform. The overall length of the Fabia is 4,108mm and its width is 1,780mm. The height of the vehicle is 1,459mm. The Fabia gets a modern design in line with the latest Skoda cars. The Fabia gets three petrol engines, a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre EVO TSI engine. The car does not come with a diesel engine.
Skoda Fabia for India
If Skoda brings Fabia to India, it will be based on Skoda’s India-specific platform, the MQB-AO-IN. It will also shorten its length to 3995mm or 3985mm to comply with the sub-4 meter rule. The rest of the design language should remain the same. The Fabia will borrow a lot of its features from the Kushaq and the upcoming Slavia. The Fabia will come with a 1.0-litre turbo and a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine. Mostly the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated will get a performance update for better performance. It is unlikely that Skoda will give the 1.5-litre TSI engine to this car in India.
Price and competition
Skoda will price the Fabia competitively if it is launched in India. It will be priced in the range of Rs 7-10 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Fabia will compete with the Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and the new-generation Volkswagen Polo.
