Rs 10 lakh Mahindra Thar competition – What is it?
We had recently learnt that Mahindra is in the works to bring a cheaper variant of the Thar that could be priced somewhere around Rs 10 Lakhs. However, a product from another brand that we might get to see in the coming time could give the cheaper Thar a run for its money. Design
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be the product under discussion today. The India-spec Jimny will be similarly designed to the one which is exported to the foreign markets. The off-roader is a lifestyle SUV that borrows design cues from Maruti Gypsy. The car is already available as a 3-door in foreign markets, with a 5-door version in the works as well. We believe a 5-door version would be more viable for the Indian customers as people will find it more value-for-money.
Specifications & Dimensions
The 5-door version of the Maruti Jimny will be 3850mm long, 1645mm wide and 1730mm tall. The off-roader will get a 2550mm long wheelbase and will sit 210mm above the ground. The car will mostly come powered by the brand’s K15B petrol engine that we get to see with Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga & S-Cross. The engine will be capable of making somewhere around 101bhp and 130Nm of torque. The engine is expected to come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Also, the car could come sat on 15-inch wheels.
Rs 10 Lakh Thar competition features
On the feature front, we might get to see the Jimny coming with basic 4WD, a touchscreen infotainment system with off-roading data, Brake LSD (Limited Slip Differential), hill descent control, hill hold and some other features that will make it a great choice for people who love occasional off-roading. However, we do not expect Jimny to be a proper off-roading machine as that would increase the costs for the brand. The car will get all necessary safety features with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors & camera being the prominent ones.
Pricing & Launch
The Jimny is expected to start somewhere around Rs 10 Lakh price mark. As far as the launching is concerned, the brand was supposed to globally launch the 5-door version of the Jimny this year. However, the pandemic has forced the brand to postpone the launch to next year. With the car once globally unveiled, we expect to see the car simultaneously launch here around the same time as well.
