If you look at Tata’s lineup you can start from the Tiago and upgrade your way gradually to the Nexon. The top model of the Nexon has priced at Rs 15.61 lakh and the base model of the Harrier starts at Rs 17.39 lakh. A 2 lakh difference is a lot when you consider other products in the lineup overlap on each other. This market space is crucial for Tata as the best selling SUV which is also a vehicle in the Top-selling SUVs list is in this list. We expect a Tata Rs 12 lakh SUV which will fill this void. In this article, we are going to speculate on what can be expected from this SUV.

Engine

This car would have the same engines as the Tata Nexon but they might have a higher performance tune. These engines include a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and two naturally 1.5-litre engines in petrol and diesel. Now here the 1.6-litre petrol engine is something that we are expecting Tata to develop so that it gets shared on the Harrier too. This will not only give it an edge to compete with the Creta but also make the Harrier cheaper by introducing a petrol variant.

Tata Safari

Platform

Now the OMEGA platform which is used for the Harrier is already reduced to its minimum. For this smaller car Tata will possibly not use the OMEGA platform. Instead, the ALPHA platform is seen on the Altroz. The ALPHA platform will ensure better safety and this could be the USP of the vehicle. If we look at the car in the Creta segment safety ratings have not been the talk while buying. It is quite a feature-driven market and if Tata Rs 12 lakh SUV wants to get an edge over that then it should consider making a 5-star safety rated car.

Features

Tata will give it the features which are there on the Tata Nexon and Altroz. It will feature better-connected car tech will added benefits. The physical features might include a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting. The option of ventilated seats is highly unlikely as even the Safari does not get it. This Tata Rs 12 lakh SUV is not a derivative of Tata’s previous concepts or any rumors. This SUV is the ideal car that can fill the void that is there currently in the Tata lineup. The Tata Blackbird project has is not related to this and there is no information about that either from Tata.

Hyundai Creta

Tata in the end has to have a product that goes head to head with the Creta. The Harrier has been compared from time and again by us, critics and fans alike. But in the end, the Harrier is bigger, has a bigger engine and sits one segment above the Creta with the Hector, Compass, XUV500 and Citroen C5 Aircross. The Creta is a strong brand which competes with the Seltos, Kicks and Duster. To compete with Hyundai and bite into their biggest market, the Tata Rs 12 lakh SUV in the C-segment is a much needed car.
