Rs 10 Lakh Mahindra Thar being planned?
Mahindra Thar has been a really successful product for the company. The lifestyle SUV received a generation change last year, and the new one has been selling like a hot cake. Thar, although being a great product, comes at a high cost. The base variant starts at Rs 14.56 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai). With a high starting price, many people miss out on this great product. With this being the case, it is being speculated that Mahindra is planning to bring a cheaper variant of the Thar. In this article, we will discuss Rs 10 Lakh Mahindra Thar. Let’s go.
Specifications
The Thar in its current setup comes powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The petrol unit makes 150bhp and 300Nm of torque. The diesel unit on the other hand makes 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both these units come mated to manual & automatic transmissions. With the Rs 10 Lakh Mahindra Thar, we expect to see a less powerful 1.5-litre engine is offered. Also, the brand could offer a 2.0-litre engine as well. Both these units are expected to come mated to manual gearboxes only. Also, the 4WD might only be limited to the diesel units. Other than these, the car is expected to sit on smaller 16-inch steel wheels rather than 18-inch alloys.
Other changes
With the price being lowered, the company might have to take some steps in order to reduce the cost. We expect Mahindra to take multiple cost-cutting measures to make this work. The new one might only be offered with a basic 2-DIN infotainment unit with the touchscreen infotainment system missing; speakers might also take a miss; the interior might only get manual windows instead of powered ones; 2nd-row seating could be made optional with only the front row available as standard. Features like cruise control, LED DRLs and steering-mounted controls are expected to be missing. Also, the car might only get a soft-top.
Pricing & Launch
