Engine
The i20 and the Baleno, both offer 1.2-litre petrol engines with almost similar specs in the entry-level models, but the i20 takes the lead with the diesel and turbocharged petrol engines also on offer. Baleno on the other hand only comes with naturally-aspirated petrol engine options.
Interiors & Connected Car
Both cars are only offered with single tone dashboards, irrespective of trim. The dual-tone insert is only available on the seats and upholstery. Both cars are available with connected car features with BlueLink for i20 and Suzuki-Connect for the Baleno. BlueLink, however, offers many additional features like over-the-air maps and remote start-stop to name some.
Baleno vs i20 Transmission
The Baleno is offered with options of regular manual and automatic CVT transmissions paired with petrol engines. The i20 on the other hand comes with a plethora of options with regular manual, automatic CVT, clutchless manual and automatic DCT transmissions to choose from.
Safety
Both the i20 and the Baleno are equipped with ABS, EBD, Engine Immobilizer, central locking, child safety lock, speed sensing door lock and 2 airbags (driver and co-passenger) from the base model. But the Baleno offers child seat anchor points and Brake Assist extra with the base model.
The i20, however, takes the lead with offerings like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Hill Assist Control and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The Maruti Baleno offers 2 airbags, ABS and EBD on the top trim.
Features
The i20 clearly takes the lead here with a variety of convenience features. The i20 comes with features like air-purifier, wireless charging, sunroof, rear AC vents, 26.03cm HD touchscreen infotainment & navigation system and glovebox cooling on some trims, which are not offered with the Baleno with any of the trim options.
The Baleno comes with better space and all the needed features. But if you wish for premium features along with better design and drivability, the i20 is the way-to-go. The i20 justifies its asking price with the additional features it has to offer to the customers.
