New Scorpio – Similarities with new Thar
The Mahindra Scorpio is bound for a facelift anytime soon with spy-shots of test mules doing regular rounds. The Scorpio which awaited a facelift for quite some time is almost ready with a new avatar currently undergoing tests. Down below are our take on the similarities between the new Thar and the new Scorpio.
Suspension
Mahindra Scorpio could sport independent wishbone suspension for all four wheels for providing added comfort and better ride quality to the customers. The Mahindra Thar, which gets the independent wishbone suspension only on the front, feels jumpy on the rear end while crossing bumps. Mahindra would increase comfort with the new Scorpio.
New Scorpio Platform
The platform on the new-gen Scorpio is expected to be same as the new Thar with extension done to the wheelbase to accommodate the extra overhang of the Scorpio.
Wheel Size
The Scorpio will be seen sporting 18-inch wheels with a new set of alloys to give the chunky vehicle good amounts of grip, handling, improved cornering ability, better riding comfort, better steering feel and much-needed braking performance by an SUV of this size. The same setup is offered on the Thar as well.
Engine
The Scorpio might be powered by the same 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol which produces 150bhp and 300Nm of torque. The diesel engine setup for the Scorpio is also expected to be the one which powers the new Thar; the 2.2-litre mHawk 130 which produces 130bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Both the engines might be offered with automatic options as well.
Seats
The new Scorpio might now see front-facing seats compared to the previous generations which had side-facing seat layout. This could be done to draw in higher safety-ratings as safety is one of the crucial elements of product segregation these days.
Interiors
The interiors on the Scorpio are expected to be upmarket and plush with dual-tone offerings on some models. The vehicle is expected to sport the same steering wheel which is being offered on the new Thar. The centre console layout and button placements are also expected to remain similar.
