Indian manufacturers are really risen up the benchmarks whether it is in terms of technology, design. This year we have witnessed three electric scooters launch which has created a lot of buzz in the market. In the blog, we will be discussing the scooter that has been succeeded to attract the market. Yes, we are talking about the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.

Extended Range

Now most of us are more interested in the range of the electric scooter rather than the design or features. Bajaj has done a great job by giving it a range of 95 km range in eco mode and 85 km in sports mode. However, the range still is not that most of us would like. The daily travel of most of the commuters is approx 40-60 km, so it’s a good scooter for an average daily commute. Or does an electric car do the job better?

However, we sometimes do an extended commute which is not planned and the range might be the big issue in these cases. We really wished if Bajaj could offer portable battery option so that we can carry one more battery pack with us. Then the extended range will be more than 160 km and that’s what people will prefer.

Another thing is that many people are more likely to have just one motorcycle in their parking. So having only an electric scooter will be very problematic as electric charging infrastructure is still under development. It will surely take more than demi-decade to have good charging infrastructure in the country.

Top Speed

Nevertheless, If you are just thinking of buying a Bajaj Chetak electric scooter for just a daily commute and nothing else. Then we think it’s probably the best and quite affordable option for now. The claimed top speed of the scooter is about 60 km/h which is good for slow traffic cities like Pune, Nashik. Bajaj Chetak electric scooter comes with a host of modern techs such as LED DRLs, LED headlamps, taillamps and indicators. An instrument cluster is also a fully-digital unit with a negative display. You also get the smart connectivity feature to detect the location of the bike on your smartphone, it also sends a notification in case of an accident. The feature we liked the most is the reverse mode, in this mode, you can unpark the scooter from tight sports very easily. The scooter takes about 5 hours to charge from 0 to 100 and about 1 hour to charge from 0 to 25.

The price of the Bajaj Chetak starts at Rs 1 lakhs (ex-showroom) for Urbane trim and Rs 1.15 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the Premium trim. For the extra Rs 15,000, you get disc brake, premium seat and metallic colour options. It competes against TVS iQube, Ather 450X and also the upcoming Hero Maestro electric.
