Most of us might already know that TVS and BMW Motorrad had a JV for several previous bikes and also for several upcoming bikes. The TVS Apache RR 310, BMW G310R and BMW G310GS share the same engine unit. So why did BMW actually partnered TVS and how did it help to build an engine? To find out the answers, read the complete blog and we are sure you will not be disappointed.

Price

Mass production leads to lower down the pricing, that’s the mantra KTM and Bajaj have always been following. Similarly, TVS-BMW JV works to lower down the cost of the bikes by producing multiple bikes on the same platform. The TVS RR310 and BMW G310R do share lots of bits starting from the engine to the mainframe, brakes, etc. Nevertheless, we will be focusing more on the engine in the blog, which takes us to our next point which is about the Apache engine.

TVS Apache BMW Engine

BMW G310R

The engine is developed by the co-developed by the BMW Motorrad and TVS motor company to meet the standards and requirements for both the brands. The TVS Apache BMW engine is a 312 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled unit.

It produces about 33 bhp max power and 27.3 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated with the slipper clutch and a six-speed gearbox. The interesting thing about this engine is that it’s the smallest engine in any BMW bike but on the other hand, it’s the biggest engine for TVS. Nevertheless, the engine is very refined and performs very brilliantly. TVS and BMW both use their own ECU’s so you will definitely feel a slightly better punch on RR3310 than BMW G310R or G310GS.

TVS and BMW will be bringing the fourth all-new product on the same platform and engine. What category bike it will be, is still unknown but we are expecting it to be a cruiser motorcycle. Also, read: BS6 BMW Bikes – Price Cut? How Much?

BMW sales

Now, you might be thinking that the JV helped TVS a lot more than BMW which might be true. However, BMW managed to get more sales than the TVS. BMW currently manages to get an average sale of 1200-1300 units whereas TVS manages to get 250-300 unit of average monthly sale. Nevertheless, we can say that JV has really helped BMW to expand in various international markets.

One more interesting point of these motorcycles is the price difference. TVS RR310 BS6 costs Rs 2 lakhs (ex-showroom) while the BMW G310R BS4 costs Rs 3 lakhs (ex-showroom). Even with the same engine and lots of parts sharing, the BMW G310R is around Rs 70,000-80,000 (BS6 variant will have a hike of Rs 10-20,000) expensive than TVS RR310. That makes us think about the brand value of BMW.
