The Mahindra Scorpio BS6 has officially been launched and bookings are now open in various dealerships across the country. In its BS6 iteration, the Scorpio gets an update on the engine and addition of features. The dealerships are accepting bookings through online payments of Rs 5,000.

Mahindra Scorpio BS6 variants

Along with the BS6 upgrade, Mahindra has also changed the variant lineup of the Scorpio. The Scorpio range now starts from the S5 variant itself and therefore misses out on the S3 base variant that was offered early. The S5 variant even gets a new headlamp feature. The top-of-the-line S11 variant has lost the four-wheel-drive system as well. Apart from this, there are no visual changes on the car and it just gets additions to its engines to make it BS6 compliant.

Mahindra Scorpio BS6 features

The Mahindra Scorpio BS6 is available with a seven, eight or nine-seater configuration depending on the variant that you choose. The car also gets features such as dual frontal airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, air-conditioning and Mahindra’s micro-hybrid technology as standard. In addition, the top-end S11 trim will be offered with a seven-inch touchscreen with navigation, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, reverse parking camera, faux leather upholstery, cruise control and puddle lamps as well. But, it misses out on the four-wheel-drive system that could be a disappointment to some.

Engine and transmission

The car will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk engine. But this engine has now been upgraded to produce 140 bhp and 220 nm of torque. It can be had with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. It has lost out on the 2.5-litre diesel engine that was previously offered. Although this one produces a lot more power.

Pricing and Competition

The SUV is available in four colour options – Pearl white, Napoli Black, Molten Red and Silver. The Mahindra Scorpio will compete with the likes of the MG Hector and the Kia Seltos in terms of pricing. Although the car is aimed at carrying more passengers rather than focusing on the features. The Mahindra Scorpio, for this reason, is very popular in rural areas and towns. It could be priced at around Rs 12-13 lakh (ex-showroom). Since the Mahindra Scorpio BS6 now misses out on the four-wheel-drive system, the S11 variant could cost lesser than before. The models will start rolling out as soon as the lockdown is lifted.
