The mid-sized SUV segment is really heated up now due to multiple participants. Tata Harrier and MG Hector were the entities that have entered the market since 2019. Both these SUVs were highly anticipated due to their road presence. However, today we will be differentiating both these SUVs so that you will be able to get the right choice.
Engine / Powertrain
Let’s start from the engine and transmission options as it gives an idea of the performance and fun element. Starting from the Tata Harrier, it comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that churns out around 168 bhp max power and 350 Nm peak torque. It comes mated with a 6-gear manual and optional 6-speed automatic gearbox. Tata will be soon bringing the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that is expected to produce around 150 bhp max power. Gearbox option for petrol is expected to remain the same as the diesel.
Now, let’s turn our attention towards the MG Hector. The SUV comes with three engines -1.5-litre petrol,1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol hybrid. The 1.5-litre petrol and petrol hybrid produces around 141 bhp max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. While the 2.0-litre diesel produces around 168 bhp max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. MG Hector has been offered with a 6-speed manual as well as 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox option.
Considering both these specifications, both the vehicles seem to offer a similar level of performance. However, MG Hector gets the upper hand in the transmission area due to the DCT gearbox. However, the DCT gearbox is not been offered with the diesel that’s something downside for the Hector.
Both these SUVs comes equipped with loads of features. Both these SUVs come with a panoramic sunroof, touch screen infotainment system, sharkfin antennas, premium upholstery, Auto headlamps and wiper, climate control, AI system, etc. However, the MG Hector has pretty futuristic AI system than the Tata Harrier. Both the SUVs have been added with multiple safety features that include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, child ISOFIX, hill assist and many more.
The reason for keeping the exterior design at the end is because the design is really subjective and cannot be judged easily. However, to describe some of the major elements we’ll start from the front portion. Both the SUVs comes with the somewhat similar position of the headlamps and DRls. Both the vehicles come with projector headlamps and LED taillamps setup. From the side, both SUVs possess floating roof styling. Overall, both the SUVs look good and have great road presence. MG Hector is a little bit longer than the Harrier so it offers better boot space over Harrier.

While the MG Hector starts at Rs 12.73-17.43 lakhs (ex-showroom). Considering the price MG Hector offers slightly better features over similar priced Tata Harrier variants.
