125 cc scooter segment is really growing segment in India, the sales figures are proving it. Suzuki Access 125 is one of the old players in the 125 cc segment and it’s also the two-wheeler which actually revived the Suzuki in India. Honda Activa 125, on the other hand, is a bigger version of Honda’s most famous scooter, the Activa. So let’s do the faceoff of these 125 cc scooters and we will be then able to find out the better among the two.

Power

Honda Activa 125 is equipped with 124 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected unit. The engine churns out around 8.1 bhp max power at 6,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. On the other hand, Suzuki Access 125 gets similarly displaced 124 cc fuel-injected engine. The engine produces around 8.6 bhp max power at 6.750 rpm and 10 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm.

Honda Activa 125

Comparing both of them we can clearly see that Suzuki Access 125 gets better power output while the Honda Activa 125 gets better torque output. However, Suzuki has brilliantly optimized its torque by having a smaller 10-inch rear wheel to pull out more torque at the lower rpm’s. So, in the real world, you will find Access 125 to perform better than the Activa 125. However, due to the smaller 10-inch rear wheel, it looks a bit out of proportion and also lower down the aesthetic impression. Nevertheless, Suzuki Access 125 to have a clear win in terms of performance.

Features

Honda Activa 125 comes will feature such as an LED headlamp, LED DRLs, semi-digital instrument cluster, multi-functional switch, external fuel lid, side stand engine inhibitor, idle start-stop system, full metal body and much more.

Coming towards the Suzuki Access 125, it get LED headlamps, semi-digital instrument cluster, external fuel lid. However, the scooter misses out on the features like LED DRLs, integrated switch for fuel lid at front, side-stand engine inhibitor and indicator, idle start-stop system, full metal body. As the scooter doesn’t possess a full metal body, its very lightweight and easy to manoeuvre than the Activa 125. However, in terms of features Activa 125 is a clear winner.

Hardware

Both the scooters are equipped with a similar level of hardware equipment. The suspension duty for both of them is managed by telescopic suspensions at front and mono-shock suspension at the rear. Both of them do have front disc brake as an option which is then assisted by the combined braking system. So in terms of hardware, its a tie between these scooters.

Design

Suzuki Access 125

Design is quite subjective so it’s up to you which design you actually liked the more. Honda Activa 125 looks more of a modern scooter while the Suzuki Access 125 is kind of inspired by the retro theme. Both these scooters do offer better aesthetics and design so it will be unfair to have just one winner.

Price

Honda Activa 125 starts at Rs 70,476 (all prices ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 77,526 for the DX disc brake model. On the other hand, Suzuki Access 125 starts at Rs 67,100 and goes up to Rs 71,700 for the disc brake model. Looking at the price, we think that Suzuki Access offers slightly better value for money among the two but this doesn’t mean Honda Activa 125 is a bad choice. Honda Activa 125 offers better features and premium bits so if you are feature-oriented then Activa 125 is a nice choice but if you are performance-oriented then Access 125 will be a better choice. Other 125 cc scooter you can consider as an option includes TVS Ntorq, Yamaha Fascino 125, Yamaha Ray ZR, Aprilia SR 125.

Which to pick?

Now picking a scooter all comes down to value for money. The Activa 125 even though is a good scooter with the BS6 update becomes very costly. It does offer the start stop functionality but that does not make a big difference. If you are a scooter buyer who wants latest tech then go for the Activa 125. On the other hand if you just want to upgrade to 125cc scooter then go for the Suzuki access 125.
