The i30 has been recently spotted testing on Indian roads. The Hyundai i30 is a premium hatchback offered from Hyundai in global markets. It has been existing in international markets for a long time.

These kinds of hatchbacks are for people who want all the comfort of a sedan while getting it in a compact body. The Hyundai i30 sits above the i20 in the company’s range of vehicles. The car is bigger than the Hyundai i20 and gets more features as well as a bigger engine.

Overview

The Hyundai i30 is 4.3 metres long, 1.78 metres wide and gets a wheelbase of 2.56 metres. That’s nearly the size of Creta.

The car is not expected to be launched here.

It had been wearing the ARAI stickers therefore it could be the case that the company was testing the new engine. This testing is mostly done due to testing the engine to meet emission norms.

The car spotted testing on our roads was the 1.6-litre diesel variant. The four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit is available with 115 bhp or 136 bhp. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT. It also gets the 1.4-litre petrol and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol in some global markets. These figures are similar to the Compact SUVs that are offered in our market currently.

Hyundai plans

Meanwhile, the company seems to have a busy year as it has recently launched the Hyundai Creta and the Verna facelift. It also plans to launch the Tucson facelift later this year. One of the most awaited launches the new i20 was also due for a launch this year, but due to the current conditions, the launch could be pushed to early next year.

Hyundai i30 launch and pricing

The car will also be costing more as it is not a sub-four metre car and therefore will be coming in the higher tax bracket. The i30 will not be a viable option for the country as it sits above the i20 and will cost upwards of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Indian market has demand only for SUVs in this segment. Currently, there is no hatchback in this segment in the Indian market unless you look at crossovers such as the Maruti S Cross of the Hyundai Creta. In international markets, it goes up against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic hatchback.
