BS6 Elite i20 launched, looses diesel engine

The Elite i20 is next in line from the range of cars in Hyundai to get the BS6 updates. Globally, the all-new i20 is slated for a launch soon. It will get a fresh design along with a revised interior that will have a host of features. The new i20 will be introduced in the Indian market sometime after its global launch. For now, the Elite i20 will get the BS6 upgrade from Hyundai to continue selling the car before the new i20 has been brought in. Check out what has been changed in the BS6 Elite i20 below.

Engine and gearbox

Hyundai has recently introduced the 1.0-litre turbo petrol in many of its cars including the i10 Nios and the Hyundai Aura. The Elite i20 will not get this engine. Instead, the Elite i20 will discontinue it’s a 1.4-litre diesel engine that was previously sold. The diesel would turn out to be very expensive for the Indian market. It will continue to get the 1.2-litre petrol although in its BS6 form. Hyundai seems to offer the i20 with lesser variants, as it will also discontinue the CVT option that was previously offered in some variants and will now be available in the manual guise only with the BS6 engine. The entry-level Era variant will also be discontinued. The BS6 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 82bhp and 115Nm of torque and comes paired to a five-speed manual transmission. The car is available in four trims including Magna Plus, Sportz Plus, Sportz Plus DT and Asta (O).

BS6 Elite i20 features

The Elite i20 comes with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, LED DRLs, auto climate control, reverse camera, rear AC vents, keyless go with push-button start, ABS, and front, side & curtain airbags. The Elite i20 could get some updates and new additions so as to attract new customers. It could get an updated infotainment system from the company.

BS6 Elite i20 rivals and pricing

The BS6 Elite i20 rivals the Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz. The car is priced around Rs 15,000 more than the current BS4 i20. The car has been priced between Rs 6.49 lakhs and Rs 8.30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
