Kia Sonet to be the next compact SUV?

The much-speculated KIA sub-4 meter SUV, earlier dubbed as the KIA QYI appears to have gotten a name for itself- the Kia Sonet.

The car is expected to have a host of features and engine options in order to successfully rival cars such as the Tata Nexon, the Hyundai venue and the Ford Ecosport. Have a look below to find out the details about the car and also its expected launch date in India.

Kia Sonet Launch

India is one of the biggest markets globally when it comes to compact SUVs, and therefore Kia is making a smart move by planning to launch the Sonet this year itself. Kia is expected to showcase the Sonet in the auto expo 2020, and launch it in the second half of this year, presumably before the festive season. The company had previously announced in its plans for India that it will launch a new model every six months and looks like they are on the track of doing so with the launch of the Kia Carnival confirmed on February 5 at the Auto expo. The brand gained major success last year with the launch of their first car- the Kia Seltos that instantly became a hit amongst the India crowd and no wonder India is expected to be the first country to get the Kia Sonet.

Kia Engines, Gearbox and Features

The Sonet is expected to be on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue that is already sold in India. It will include features such as LED Daytime Running Headlights, LED Taillight and an automatic Sunroof. The interiors of the car will be equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto in addition to wireless charging and rear AC vents.

Engine options are likely to include 1.

0l turbo petrol producing 120ps that will be mated to a DCT Automatic transmission, 1.5l petrol producing 115ps and a 1.5l diesel producing 115ps; both being mated to a manual transmission. Hyundai, the sister company of Kia have just launched the Aura compact sedan, upgrading their 1.2-litre diesel engine to meet with the BS6 norms. Since Hyundai engines are present on the Kia Seltos, there is a possibility of this engine being made available in the Kia Sonet.
