2019 Maruti S-Presso offers a tonne-load of accessories

The Maruti Future S concept was an exciting car to look at the last Auto Expo, a mini SUV that could start a whole new segment below the sub-for meter compact SUV segment. Maruti has been really secretive about this project till now but according to one publication, the car will be called the 2019 Maruti S-Presso and it is planned for the upcoming festive season. The market leader targets to re-define compact car design language with S-Presso. Along with the S-Presso, Maruti is also planning to launch the Ertiga Cross, the Maruti Wagon R Electric and the Grand Vitara this year.

Maruti Alto K10 vs Maruti S-Presso

The Maruti S-Presso uses the same engine as on the Maruti K10. This is a BS6 engine which will make the same power and torque. While the dimensions of the car are out the vehicle when compared with the Maruti Alto K10 its found out that the S-Presso is approximately the same car. Starting with the fuel tank the are identical. The S-Presso has a longer wheelbase by 20mm. This might reduce the body roll by a minor amount. The Width of the S-Presso is 5 mm more which does not translate into space but is bogged down by the design aspect. the height of this car is 80mm more than the Alto K10 which makes somewhat more headroom. The length of the S-Presso is 20 mm more than the Alto K10 this will mean that there might be some minor increase in space in the cabin. The motive behind why Maruti is launching this car is not clear. Does this mean that the Alto K10 will be discontinued?

2019 Maruti S-Presso Price in India

This new tallboy hatchback/mini-SUV should be priced somewhere close to the Alto. We reckon this new vehicle will be priced somewhere close to or above the Kwid. So, in the range of Rs 3.5 lakhs to Rs 4.5 lakhs (Ex-showroom). Maruti will be offering this hatchback with a lot of features. The engines are likely to be 1.0-litre offerings. There could be a possibility of Maruti shoehorning the 1.2-litre petrol in there which will increase the price a bit more. In terms of features, it will be offering a little more than the Kwid in the Indian market.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Dimensions

The dimensions of this vehicle put in the line with the Kwid. The Maruti S Presso was expected to be a direct competitor to the Renault Kwid and this clearly tells us that the vehicles will go head to head. The S Presso is smaller in length and width but the height of the car is 200 mm more than the Kwid. The wheelbase is shorter by a 100mm. This makes the car overall smaller and raises a question of the space in the cabin. The car will also have a fuel tank smaller than the Kwid. The one-litre difference that it has will affect the Range to a 20km approximately. Both these cars provide give high fuel efficiency and this is what makes it very economical to run. The Ground clearance will be 180 mm which is very practical for Indian road condition.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Engines

From what it appears, this will be a Kwid competition. Hence, this S-Presso production model will come with the same engine as the Alto. There will be a 1.0-litre petrol with about 65bhp of power on tap which is the BS6 equivalent of the K10 engine on the Alto. This car will get a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT too. One more thing about the S-Presso will be its higher ground clearance and rugged SUV like look to make it a lot more stylish and appealing. This car will get Basic 3 variants as well as an AMT variant. The car will not get AMT in the topmost variant as will increase the price significantly.

2019 Maruti Concept S-Presso – What is it?

The 2019 Maruti S-Presso was explained by Mr. CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Limited when he talked about the Future S Concept – “The increasing preference for SUVs and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for compact cars that could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future.”

Maruti Suzuki design team feels that the upcoming S-Presso epitomizes the next level of design evolution in terms of design proportions. Then the body sculpting and stimulating fusion of bold patterns and superior accent colors. It is a big step-up in design language. The above car spotted testing shows the same. The urban SUV image is put together by the bold and upright front, with a Unique A-pillar treatment, that gives a strong yet dynamic appeal. Maruti will want to take on the Kwid which is an SUV inspired hatch with such a design.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Concept Platform

From what we understand, this should make it into production by late 2019 or mid-2019. This will be a hatchback that will have an SUV-like stance along with some rugged styling. So what will it be based on? The mini SUV, Maruti S-Presso will use the Heateck platform from Maruti. The Maruti Wagon R version of the platform will be used for the Maruti S-Presso. This will make the car lighter, safer and roomier.

Maruti is making sure that the Heartect platform is used in everything in its line-up. The car will use a slightly modified version of the platform that is seen on the new Wagon R.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Design

If the Y1K concepts design language is anything to go by, this car will have a tall and wide stance. It will also opt for more curvy and flowing lines than a box look of the Brezza. The car will have certain touches that will pay homage to the Zen hatchback. Nimbleness and practicality will wrap together to give us a very smart package. The boot space will be adequate. As expected a high bonnet is seen and it will give a good overall visibility.

The wheels on this vehicle are rather small and steal the vibe of the car. The car will not replace any car from the existing lineup but it definitely gives the feel of a Maruti 800 in some places. The Maruti S-Presso will be offered through the Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships. Maruti had confirmed a year ago if its interest in the Kwid kind of vehicle and this is what it should be. The new-gen S-Presso design. This could be implemented into a more sober-looking vehicle when it is launched. But the new S-Presso will be an extremely stylish looking vehicle that will offer SUV like looks.

This will offer bells and whistles to counter the Kwid. So, it will offer a touchscreen system with Bluetooth and navigation too. When this vehicle will be launched it shall come with dual airbags and ABS as a standard feature. The Kwid also by then will be equipped with these features.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Interiors

Right before the launch of the Maruti S-Presso The company has unveiled the vehicle via images. The Interiors of the car are based on an orange theme and this will be the car with other colours. The vehicle gets basic safety compliance with 2 airbags at the front. The interiors are pretty basic with Maruti’s Infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The AC vents are cleverly integrated into the dash They get the body-colored surrounds. The boot of the vehicle is decently spaced. It not large but is enough for a vehicle of this size.

The Side profile of the car reminds us of the Alto. This looks like an elevated version of the Alto. The front and rear bumper are big and bold. They increase the black portions of the car and make the car look visually high. This also saves up on the metal parts and cuts the cost. The rear overhang is minimal. The window of the rear door is small and reminds of the Ignis. The rear tailgate looks small and this raises a question of boot space.

The wheels on this car are small and steal the look of the car. If the vehicle was provided with bigger wheels that would have become a USP of the vehicle. As of now, there seems no reason why one should buy this vehicle over the Alto. There is no information on the interior of the vehicle and this means that Maruti Suzuki might have something in the interiors that makes this car different than the Alto. The wheels of the car are steel wheels and the option of an alloy wheel is not visible in any near future.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Features 

By the time Maruti S-Presso hits showrooms, it will have to have features like 2 airbags and rear parking sensors, rear camera as standard. We can expect cruise control, Android Auto, Apple Car Play, Mirror Link and a 5 –inch touch screen standard too. The car will have leather seats, a lot of cubby holes and smart storage. The Maruti S-Presso’ interior will have better materials and plastics used in it compared to present cars.

2019 Maruti S-Presso Colours

For now, there is no clarity that whether the car will be launched via Nexa or standard Maruti showrooms. So there is no speculation that will be available on this car. The car had been showcased in flaming orange colour at the Auto expo. This colour was close to the colour on the Celerio X. A few new colours will be nice to see on this car.
