2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift launching in October

The 2017 Maruti S-Cross will be launching very soon. This is another Crossover from Maruti, which was launched before the popular Vitara Brezza. The S-Cross is a premium vehicle as compared to the Brezza and offers best of both worlds, which is a car like feel with a high ground clearance and good utility. The 2017 Maruti S-Cross is a facelift so the changes of this vehicle will be minimal. We were the first to bring you the news about the 1.6-litre engine being discontinued in the S-Cross facelift. This vehicle will only come with the 1.3-litre diesel engine.

There are afew changes that S-Cross will be getting, howvwer, they are purely cosmetic in nature. The exteriors are upgraded mainly. This includes a new front fascia. The changes on the inside are not too many. Performance lover will now be a bit disappointed as the more powerful 1.6-litre version will not make it in the facelift.

The Maruti S-Cross had earned itself an expensive car tag due the high price of the 1.6-litre version. This was one of the reasons for the vehicle to clock luke warm sales numbers. This was the first vehicle to be sold from the Nexa showrooms. Now with Nexa getting more popular and spreading wide, there is a chance that the S-Cross facelift will do better than before.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Facelift Launch Date

The 2017 Maruti S-Cross Facelift will be launched by this month end, which is very soon. The S-Cross is relatively a new product in India and hence there will not be many changes on this vehicle. The launch is on 27th September.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Facelift Price in India

Maruti S-Cross facelift Price

Variant Price (on-road, Delhi)
Base petrol 9.5 lakhs
Top diesel 13.5 lakhs

The  2017 S-Cross facelift will not see any major change in its pricing. In fact, the price will see a reduction as a new 1.5-litre petrol engine is likely to be introduced. This will be more powerful than the existing 1.3-litre diesel engine.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Specifications

Engine 1.3-litre diesel
Power 90bhp
Torque 200Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual
Drivetrain Front-wheel drive

The specs of the S-Cross will see a change here this time. The  2017 Maruti S-Cross will get a 1.3-litre diesel engine only. The engines develops 90bhp of power and 200Nm of maximum torque. A five-speed manual transmission does duty alongwith. The 1.6-litre diesel engine will be discontinued. Reason for that being, high price tag and low penetration amongst buyers. Maruti had been importing this engine directly from Fiat in Europe, hence it was expensive. So those looking at performance will miss out on this engine. Maruti wants to focus more on mass buyers rather than enthusiasts. The single engine option will help the company curtail costs too.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine, which was rumoured to come is also out of the race. This engine will not be launched anytime soon. The 1.3-litre engine will be the only engine for the S-Cross. This is more of a cruiser engine and is ideal for decent performance and good driveability. for spirited driving, however, one has to make constant gearshifts.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Mileage

1.3-litre diesel Mileage
City 14-15km/l
Highway 19km/l
ARAI (expected) 21km/l

The 1.3-litre diesel engine returns about 13km/l in the city and about 17km/l on the highway. As per the ARAI figures, the S-Cross returns 25km/l. Howver, in real driving conditions that is hard to achieve. This Fiat sourced engine is very frugal and Maruti has mastered how to extract the best possible performance and mileage from this engine. An SHVS on this engine is not likely to come, as the new tax regulations would make it unviable now.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Design

The new Maruti S-Cross 2017 gets a new front look . The new front grille looks premium, and resembles the BMW X1 to an extent. The S-Cross does look good and it has a lot of bits that do stand out. With the new fascia, it looks more attractive now. The new hood design makes it look bigger. The headlamps also get a change and there are projectors this time. This is one of the fastest facelift Maruti has ever given to any of its products and we reckon this should help. The global S-Cross got its update and it was due for India anyways.

The side remains unchanged. However, the alloy wheels are new this time. The rear is simlar to what it was earlier. Its is mostly the front end that looks different now. The projector headlamps get daytime running LEDs on this new version too. The headlamps look more exquisite. There shall be some new colours also on offer. The new hood makes it look somewhat different and more appealing, we have to wait and watch how it seems in the real world.

The large touchscreen system will be there and this will come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation and reverse camera too will be there. Climate control will continue to be offered on the S-Cross.

Safety features like Dual airbags and ABS will be offered as standard. Most Maruti vehicles are now following this benchmark. The interior space remains the same as earlier. The front seats have than sufficient space and the passengers remain comfortable. The second row is also quite spacious and offers generous leg room, even for tall passengers. Three people can sit comfortably. The boot size too is sufficient enough. The S-Cross shall get features like automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and reverse sensors. Then it will also have push start and stop and even keyless entry. There shall even be rear AC vents on offer as well, which adds to the comfort of the rear passengers.

2017 Maruti S-Cross Competition

The 2017 Maruti S-Cross doesn’t have any direct rival as such . However, iwhen it comes to price, it competes with the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and the Tata Safari Storme. The other competing products will be the Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford Ecosport.  The new Renault Captur will also have some price overlap with the S-Cross. This vehicle is expected to position itself between these two sub-segments and create an identity of its own.
