We had first revealed that Hyundai Kona will be the name of the new SUV that Hyundai was working upon. The Hyundai Kona has finally been unveiled. This all new SUV is based on the Intrado concept introduced. The images of this SUV have been officially been revealed and has created quite a buzz. Kona is compact SUV and sidewise it is slightly smaller than the Creta. So, in the Indian scenario, it will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford Ecosport, mainly.
During the Auto Expo 2016, Hyundai had showcased the Carlino concept in India. This is also a compact SUV and one of the two will be making an entry in India. The Hyundai Kona is currently about 4,165mm long, but will be about about 4 metres in length, in case it comes to India. This will also give it benefit of excise duty. Hyundai Kona Launch Date
The new Kona SUV should be launched around early 2018, in the European market, as per our understanding. The Kona has been revealed much ahead of its launch ignored to create some buzz around this compact SUV.. The aim is to reach out to maximum buyers and be ready to gauge the market response early on. For India, Hyundai will want to get into the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford Ecosport segment and eat into the SUVs numbers or grow the segment further. There is likely to be an entry into India by 2019.

The expected price of the Kona could be between ₹ 7.9 lakhs to ₹ 12.3 lakhs (on-road price). This will coincide with its competition too. Hyundai could look at charging a premium, but then it even needs to create a gap between the Kona and the Creta. The Hyundai Kona will be overlapping in price with the Hyundai i20 Active and even the other compact SUVs.

Hyundai Kona Design
Hyundai Kona seen as the i20 SUV so far, internationally. This will be sharing the same platform with the existing Hyundai compact vehicles. This is a monocoque design and will be a front wheel drive vehicle. It will not offer an AWD. There will be a slight similarity to the Creta, if we view it from the rear. However, this will look more muscular than the Creta.

This SUV looks different and is in tune with modern Hyundai vehicles. The headlamps are sleek and the fog lamps are large, giving it an aggressive look. The front grille is now lower and even bigger than ever. The crowned hood looks good and the alloy wheels also are of a muscular design. At the same time, the dual tone theme is carried forward with a contrast roof colour on the Kona. It looks more like a crossover that a SUV, from the side. The silhouette is simplistic and the floating roof looks good. It is at the rear that a lot of similarity can be seen with the current Hyundai vehicles.
Hyundai Kona Interiors
The Kona gets all new interiors. A new three-spoke steering wheels does duty here. A lot of buttons are seen on the steering wheel. The instrument cluster is has twin dials and a driver information system. The centre console consists of a large touchscreen system, AC vents, climate control. It offers decent storage space as well. The side AC vents are circular. The interiors are all black and the car will be offering the best-in-class features. The regular safety bits for India should include dual airbags and ABS as a standard offering.
Hyundai Kona Engines
New range of engines will be coming in the Kona. The 1.0-litre direct injection turbo petrol one shall make it into the Kona. There are also 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel mills that will be made available on the Hyundai Kona. The Hyundai Kona will be coming with six-speed manual and an automatic transmission too. An automatic diesel is also expected to come. Hyundai has been working on a new range of SUVs for India and this compact one will be the smallest on offer. A hybrid on this vehicle was planned but it may not see the light yet.

Hyundai Kona Competition
A direct competition to the Hyundai Kona will be the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford Ecosport. The upcoming SUVs include the Tata Nexon. The other competing vehicles with the Hyundai Kona shall include the Honda WR-V and the Hyundai i20 Active. The Fiat Avventura also falls in the same price bracket.
