BMW X2 Preview

BMW X2 will be filling the gap between the X1 and the X3.

However, this will get coupe like styling similar to the X4 and the X6. The Munich-based automaker is looking at aggressively enhancing its reach with this new coupe SUV. This will be the third and the smallest product of this category. Based on the X1 platform, the company is looking at giving another option to buyers who need more bling somewhere in the range of X1. How does it perform? We share our detailed preview.

BMW X2 Release Date

The Munich-based automaker will be lifting off the covers from its new crossover on 28th of September at the Paris Motor Show. Production shall commence by early 2017 and soon deliveries will start post this. This is for European market. For US, the deliveries should start by second quarter of 2017.

The cross is expected to be priced in between the X1 (£27,000) and the X3(£33,000). So, about £30,000 should be the pricing for the X2. The M Sport variant will be about £45,000. This will be coming in at a later stage. At the moment, it will jus the the X2.

BMW X2 USA Price

The same concept applies to the States. Here, X1 costs close to $35,000, expect the bigger cross to come for about $38,000 without options. As it will be petrol only, there won’t be too many variants on offer.

BMW X2 Price in Australia

For Australia, X1 costs AUD $48,500 while the X3 is about AUD $60,000. The expected price point for the X2 will be about AUD $55,000. Deliveries will start in Aussie land by about the same time like USA. Second quarter of 2017 is when it is due to make an arrival in Australia too.

BMW X2 Price in India

For India, this cross will be priced somewhere in the range of INR 39 lakhs (on-road). This will be for the base model. It might just overlap with the X3’s base model pricing.

BMW X2 Design

Based on the new X1 platform, X2 will be a front-wheel drive vehicle. It will get the company’s xDrive too. The design will be more similar to the coupe version of the X1. With this, the Munich-based automaker will complete the package of six UVs in its portfolio. The new UKL platform is lighter than the previous one used for the X1. It will be shared with the Mini Cooper and the 2 Series Tourer as well. In terms of length, it won’t be longer than the X1. In fact the dimensions shall be similar to the X1, with maybe a lower height.

The design language will be similar to the X4 and the X6. In terms of overall design, there won’t be anything new. However, the size is what will be the key factor. With this, it can create a segment smaller than the Range Rover Evoque. This is one segment, where the Land Rover has been gaining ground over the competition.

BMW X2 Interiors

On the inside, it is a replica of the X1. The same dashboard will continue with all other elements being exactly the same. There is no difference in the centre console or even the steering wheel or the cluster. The X2’s front row of seats will have the same space and comfort too. Move into the second row and there will be a bit of lesser head room.

This is due to the sloping roofline that makes it tighter. The boot space also could be lesser than the X1 as well.

This will be due to the exterior design language.

BMW X2 Engines

The same four-cylinder engines will be carried forward on the X2. We expect the company to have the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and diesel engines. A 3.0-litre V6 petrol could be introduced for the US market and even for Australia. The eight-speed transmission will be used on all the vehicles. The M Sport, well let us leave it for the time being. The new cross will be made on the same assembly line with the X1. So, for those who are like the X1 for the drive but need something more sporty, X2 is on its way. A plug-in hybrid cannot be ruled out either.
