AS we are aware of Ford and Mahindra recent tie-up. The two automakers have once again come together, after a previous unsuccessful JV when the Ford brand entered India with the Escort back in 1990s. This time the tie-up is for electric technology from Mahindra to be shared with Ford India.

This will help them manufacture more electric vehicles in India, while that happens Mahindra shall be using Ford’s platform for small and mid-size vehicles. This will be a win-win for the duo.

We can expect the Ford Figo and Ford Aspire electric vehicles as an outcome of this.

Under this strategic partnership, Mahindra will be using Ford’s new electric vehicle platform, while Ford will be utilising Mahindra’s electric powertrain. This will help the duo to reduce their development cost and make it easier for both enhance their growth. This will mean better competitive pricing, which will put the two automakers in an advantage. Mahindra has been working towards electrifying its fleet, especially the sedan and small car family.

The e2O, e2O Plus and even the e-Verito have been developed for the Indian car market.

The testing has been done and it is a ready powertrain for Ford to pick-up for its new vehicles. Ford will not have to do a reliability test on it as most of it will be done by Mahindra. At the same time, Ford’s Ka platform has been built for the Indian car market. It has been tested for India and Ford at the moment is manufacturing highly localised hatchback and sedan and exporting them to other markets. This will give Mahindra also entry into a new segment. Mahindra will utilise its electric powertrain technology and use Ford’s platform to spur out its own products.
