There hasn’t been any new product launches from Ford in a while but this will be the next one on offering. Ford is working on the cross version of the Figo. The Ford Figo Cross will be based on the hatchback, but there shall be multiple changes on it to differentiate it. This will be a segment smaller than the Ecosport and Ford will want to get into and make it grow.

At the moment, there isn’t much of growth in this segment. There is the Ignis and the KUV100. Other than that there is nothing on offer. The Figo Cross will be a good addition in this segment and Ford will be able to add some more numbers. To begin with, the Figo Cross will have an increase in its ground clearance, so it will be a crossover than a pseudo-SUV. Looking at images it is clear that this cross will have some bits like the Avventura in styling.

Ford will be looking at making multiple changes on the Figo Cross and we do expect them to enhance the hatchback into a crossover. Ford Figo Cross will have a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine options. There shall be no change in the diesel engine. There will be some changes here as well. Read further to know more.

Ford Figo Cross Launch Date

Expect this new cross to come in by 2018 Auto Expo. We aren’t sure if Ford will be unveiling it at the Auto Expo or just a few days before it. We are certain that this new crossover will be coming in next year. Ford will want to grow into a new segment and Hyundai i20 Active and Honda WRV are good examples for the same.

Most of the Figo Sports elements shall be offered on the Figo Cross. We even expect black roof on the higher variants, which will differentiate it from the regular Figo. Also, expect roof lines to make it look taller. Most importantly the Figo Cross shall have higher ground clearance of about 180mm. These aspects will make it stand out and look different than the Figo. The Figo Cross has stylish design that makes it look somewhat like the Avventura from the front.

Ford Figo Cross Interior

On the inside, the Figo Cross will have no differentiating factors. A touchscreen? No. Push start and stop? Not really. Ford will carry forward the same equipment that is offered on the Figo. The interiors shall be all black and this will be coming with a range of features like Ford MyKey, reverse parking sensors, keyless entry etc. There shall be red stitch line on the Figo and this will make it look sporty. The seats will also be black in colour. Ford will continue with the Figo Sports interior theme on the Figo Cross as well.

Ford Figo Cross shall have the same space on offer. The front seats are large and comfortable. There is sufficient room for tall people, while there is more than sufficient space at the rear too. The boot space is also more than sufficient. This is what makes it a good option to consider. There will be keyless entry, push start and stop too on offer. The new Figo Cross will have a touchscreen system like the one seen in the Ecosport. It will be a large one with Android Auto and even Apple CarPlay. There will reverse camera and bluetooth on offer too.

Ford Figo Cross Engine

Specs Petrol Diesel
Engine 1.2-litre/1.5-litre 1.5-litre
Power 95bhp/110bhp 99bhp
Torque 120Nm/146Nm 215Nm
Transmission 5-speed manual/6-speed auto 5-speed manual

A 1.2-litre petrol engine will be powering the Ford Figo Cross. This will have about 95 bhp of power and it shall come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This will be an all new Dragon engine that will be replacing the current Figo engine. This will be more powerful and torquey. Other bit is that this will be a three-cylinder engine and hence it will be lighter. Hence, we reckon The 1.5-litre petrol engine will come with a six-speed dual clutch transmission and there will even be a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine will be the same like the current one. It will be a torquey engine with one of the best in class performance. This will make it an exciting thing for the Cross. This new vehicle will have shorter final drive ratio for better torque.  This will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

These engines will see a change in tuning for the gearbox (final drive). This shall be done as the Figo Cross will be heavier than the current Figo by about 20-30 kilograms.

Ford Figo Cross Mileage

City Highway ARAI Claimed
1.2 Petrol 12km/l 16km/l 21km/l
1.5 Petrol 10km/l 16km/l 17km/l
1.5 Diesel 15km/l 22km/l 26km/l

There won’t be a major difference in the mileage of the Figo Cross and the regular Figo. There is always a difference in the mileage of the ARAI claimed and the real world. The city mileage of the Figo petrol will be about 12km/l, while on the highway it should be close to 16km/l. The 1.5 petrol has a mileage of about 10km/l in the city and close to 16km/l on the highway. Moving on to the diesel, it will return about 16km/l in the city and about 22km/l on the highway.
