Moving to the Verna, it is an all new platform. The K2 platform is a tad lighter and in design it has grown up too. The fascia is similar to the new Elantra and there is a clear resemblance. Be it the front row of seats or the rear. The boot also is large enough for an entire family road trip.

At the same time, the Verna 2017 will not fail to impress. The dashboard looks neat and there are a bunch of features on offer too. The quality is good and it does feel premium. The front row seats are large and offer decent support. At the same time, the rear seats could have offered better space. Then there is more than sufficient boot space too. This seems t be bigger than the City.

Honda City 2017 has a lot of features on offer. The instrument panel looks simple but has a hint of premium-ness. There is a large touchscreen system with HDMI input, reverse camera, keyless entry, push start and stop and maps. Then we move on to the sun roof, cruise control and even leather upholstery. In terms of safety there are six airbags and even ABS.

There are several new features like ventilated front seats, Android Auto and even Apple CarPlay. Apart from this, there is reverse camera, sunroof, cruise control, leather seats and even keyless entry. There is also the hands free boot opening in this sedan. In terms of features, there are dual airbags and ABS with EBD as a standard feature on both the cars, even the Verna’s top end gets six airbags.

In terms of specifications, the Honda City comes with a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol comes mated to a five-speed manual and CVT options, while diesel is bolted to a six-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine has good power and the best bit about it is its performance in city and even on the highway. There is more than sufficient grunt in this engine. The need to shift gears in city driving is minimal and this improves the drivability. At the same time, the diesel engine too has good performance as well. The diesel engine has an evident engine noise. On the other hand, the petrol engine is highly refined. The driving pleasure is with both the engines, just that the petrol seems more pleasant to drive.

The Hyundai Verna 2017 on the other hand has a 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines. The petrol produces about 121bhp and diesel 126bhp. Both these engines come with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission option. We haven’t driven the new petrol, but the diesel has amazing power. To begin with, there is more than sufficient grunt to drive in comfort and even to overtake. At the same time, there is no engine noise in the diesel engine. What else do we expect? Good performance even at low engine speeds. This makes it a good engine to consider.

There isn’t a major difference in the performance of the Verna and the City diesels. We haven’t driven the petrol Verna, but the City’s petrol is just terrific. The advantage of Verna is of a six-speed automatic transmission for the diesel engine.
