This is a time when quiet a few manufacturers are concentrating more on compact sedans and compact SUVs rather than their C segment ones. Ford has already discontinued the Fiesta and it has put its efforts more on the Ecosport and Aspire now. There has been a major change in this segment and many buyers have moved on to compact SUVs. But it isn’t the case with Honda, Maruti and even Hyundai. All the three automakers aren’t just focusing on compact SUVs, but even have strong sedans in the segment to boost their sales numbers. As the current-generation has grown old, the new Hyundai Verna 2017 shall be launched in a couple of months. This will be made on a new platform and shall be all-new.
The Verna looks stylish, based on the Kinetic Design 2.0, and will easily be one of the best looking sedans in the market. It does resemble the Elantra in its design, adding some more premium feel. The platform is also new. The wheelbase will see an increase; it shall get additional features enhancing its luxury. This will make the new Verna an exciting sedan. There shall be a lot of similarity to the Hyundai Solaris that is launched in the Russian car market.
There shall be four engine choices on offer. There will be two petrol and two diesel engines on offer. Each will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the bigger engines will have an automatic transmission on offer as well. This will make the options wide enough for buyers to consider, whether someone who likes to drive or is driven around. This time around, Hyundai will be offering mild hybrid technology (start-stop). Something that Maruti calls it as SHVS. This will be helpful to increase the fuel-efficiency. We aren’t sure if this will be offered on the petrol engine or diesel or maybe both also.
The new Verna 2017 shall be launched on 22nd August 2017. Unlike most manufacturers who wait for the festive season for launches, Hyundai is trying to bring it before the start of the season. This will allow the company to be prepared for smooth deliveries in the festive season. It is about September when the festive season starts, especially from southern part of the country moving to the North. This year the company has already introduced the XCent facelift already and this will be the second launch for the year.

Pricing of the new Hyundai Verna will be aggressive. This time Hyundai will try to go for the kill and take the new Verna right into the territory of the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. To begin with, it shall have more options, a wider price bandwidth and even offer features and specifications, which the competition doesn’t offer. This will be one of the strongest points for Hyundai. The company will be looking at making the Verna 2017 a premium product, at the same time this will be more affordable and luxurious than the Honda City 2017.
|Engine||Mileage in City||Mileage on Highway|
|1.4 Petrol||11 km/l||15 km/l|
|1.6 Petrol||10 km/l||14 km/l|
|1.6 Petrol Auto||9.5 km/l||13.5 km/l|
|1.4 Diesel||15 km/l||19 km/l|
|1.6 Diesel||13 km/l||18 km/l|
|1.6 Diesel Auto||12.5 km/l||18 km/l|
The mileage of the petrol Verna isn’t one of its strongest points. It is good enough, but no the best in class like the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City. The 1.4-litre petrol engine returns about 11km/l in the city, while on the highway it is close to 15km/l. The 1.6-litre petrol manual should return about 10km/l in the city and 14km/l on the highway. The auto version will be close to 9.5km/l and 13.5km/l respectively.
The diesel engine is highly frugal. The 1.4-litre will have an efficiency of about 16km/l in city and 19km/l on the highway. The 1.6-litre manual and automatic return 15km/l and 14km/l in the city and 18km/l and 17.5km/l on the highway respectively.

The new Verna 2017 will have similarity in design to the new Elantra. It looks appealing. There is a large front grille just like the Elantra. It is hexagonal and there are horizontal chrome slats on it. The headlamps are sleek and are pulled back. These are projector lamps and even have daytime running LEDs integrated. Front fog lamps also get a new set of its own small grille.
The side profile looks a lot more sporty with its coupe-like roofline. The door pillars are blacked out. The styling makes it look appealing and trendy.this time around we can expect 16-inch wheels on the Verna 2017 as most of its competition is already offering that. The rear, well there is a sleek tail lamp, a design similar to the front. These are LEDs and then a thin chrome strip running across. The new Verna looks fresh and mature than before. It hasn’t seen a major change in its dimensions but it does feel to be bigger and grown up.

The interiors of the new Verna 2017 aren’t just appealing but have seen an improvement in its quality. The all-new dashboard looks appealing and has a clean layout. The interiors look a lot mature than before and bear a close resemblance to the Elantra. The black and beige dual tone continues on the sedan. The dashboard gets a large touchscreen system, which has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Then there are eight speakers on offer. A leather-wrapped steering wheel also looks and feels rich.
One important aspect that has changed on the Verna is the space. As the wheelbase has seen an increase, it will offer more knee room for rear passengers now. The rear seats are more comfortable and there are rear AC vents with two power outputs at the rear. The front seats shall be new and likely to be more supportive.

Same set of engines will be powering the Verna 2017. But as the new Verna shall have a new platform, these will be retuned and the automatics this time are expected to be six-speed than four. The drivability will see an upgrade on the engines. These will be tuned for better city and highway driving. The engines have always been powerful but this time around, we can expect better mileage and even better torque delivery. This will mean that one will need to shift lesser gears when driving in the city or even to overtake on the highway.
There shall be two petrol engines: 1.4 and 1.6-litre producing 100bhp and 123bhp respectively. The diesel will also have same displacement options with 90bhp and 126bhp. All will have a six-speed manual, while both the 1.6-litre engines will have a six-speed automatic option as well. The SHVS should be coming on the 1.6-litre engine options majorly. This makes the new Hyundai Verna 2017 a sedan offering a lot of options. The SHVS (mild hybrid) will help to improve the mileage, especially on the diesel engine.
