New Honda City 2017 Review

New Honda City 2017 Motion1

New Honda City 2017 has been launched at a starting price of INR 9.3 lakhs (on-road, Delhi). This is the company’s best-selling car and Honda seems to be ready to take on its competition. Offering more features and even better value for money. As this is a facelift, there are no changes in the dimensions and most of the changes on the new Honda City are majorly cosmetic. Launched back in 2014, the fourth-generation of this Japanese sedan became the best-seller in its segment. It is still one of the highest selling in its segment, until very recently when the company reduced the production. How is the New Honda City 2017? Is it better than the previous model? What is new in this car? We review the New Honda City 2017.

New Honda City 2017 Design

As this is a facelift, there isn’t a major change in the design or even the dimensions. There is a new fascia. The front grille has been revised and it resembles the new Accord and Civic. It has a honeycomb structure above which sits a thick chrome slat. The headlamps have daytime running LEDs and they look sharper. The car also gets a redesigned front bumper. These changes make the City look different and more mature than the outgoing version.

The side profile hasn’t changed much. A new of all set alloy wheels make it look appealing. These are 16-inches, diamond-cut or machine finished alloy wheels that makes the Honda City 2017 look much more classier. The rear also gets new LED tail lamps, however only on the ZX variant . The rear bumper too has undergone some design changes. It has a hone come structure strip on the lower part, to add some sportiness. The City now gets auto folding ORVMs as well. There is a shark fin antenna on the roof.

New Honda City 2017 touchscreen

Honda always had a lot of features on offer on the City. The Honda City 2017 doesn’t get any major add-ons. The infotainment system gets a 7-inch touchscreen system with MirrorLink. It is called the Honda DIGIPAD. Tis is a high definition screen and functions flawlessly. This is a big improvement over the earlier model. The screen has an HDMI input as well. The other features on the Honda City 2017 include keyless entry, touchscreen auto AC controls, cruise control, projector headlamps, day and night auto dimming, maps, reverse camera and leather seats. These are offered depending on the variants. Airbags and ABS is offered as a standard feature across all the variants. The Honda City 2017 also gets a new push start button.

In terms of space, new Honda City 2017 is one of the most spacious ones. Both the rows have more than sufficient head room and knee room. There is a rear AC vent too, and four charging points in the car. The boot space too is good enough for four people for an entire weekend. The ZX variant gets rear adjustable headrests, LED lamps at the front and rear. The ZX also gets side and curtain airbags.

New Honda City 2017 Engine

Not a major change here in the Honda City 2017. A 1.5-litre petrol engine churning about 118bhp of power and comes with a five-speed manual transmission and an option of CVT (continuously variable transmission). This engine is the most preferred one, and it is extremely torquey. Almost at any speed in any gear, the engine pulls cleanly. Without any need to downshift, one can overtake with ease. This engine has more than sufficient power to drive in the city and even on the highway. The Honda City 2017 has a highly refined engine with very low levels of NVH (noise vibration and harshness).

The other engine is the 1.5-litre diesel churning about 98bhp of power and 200Nm of maximum torque. This oil burner on the new Honda City 2017 shall be offered with a six-speed manual transmission. This is an all aluminium diesel engine, which makes it light, improving its performance and mileage. Aluminium engines are generally noisy and the same goes with this diesel engine. On the inside, the engine noise is minimal. What we love of this engine is the power it produces and the linearity of the torque. The same fashion like the petrol engine, the need to shift gears won’t be often, thus increasing the comfort to drive with ease.

New Honda City 2017 Ride and Handling

New Honda City 2017 motion 4

The Honda City 2017 doesn’t see much of a change in this aspect. The ride and handling package on the city was always decent and continues to be. The upgrade to 16-inch wheels has made the handling slightly better, however we would have preferred if Honda would have offered 205 section tyres instead on the present 185 ones. With this size of tyre, the handling of the Honda City 2017 would be in a different league. The ride remains pliant on smooth roads and it is only on very bad roads that the ride gets unsettled. The Honda City 2017 feels most comfortable on good roads. The sure-footed feeling has improved a bit though, due to the larger wheels.

New Honda City 2017 India Mileage

Despite the good performance, the New Honda City 2017 has amazing efficiency. To begin with, the petrol manual should return about 11-13 km/l in the city, while on the highway it will be about 18 km/l. The automatic on the other hand should be close to 10-11 km/l and 17 km/l. For the diesel, city mileage should be 17 km/l and highway can hover between 19-23 km/l depending purely on driving style.

honda city should get a little more power for its cars and make suspensions little heavier as after 40-50k kms they wear off quite fast
