2018 Nissan Sunny coming next year?

From the fame of the Caaaaaaar commercial, Nissan Sunny has been known for its space and comfort. This was always the talking point of this sedan. Launched in India on the Micra platform, this was the company’s hope against the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. Back at that time, the Sunny’s USP was its space and the features it offered. With time, things changed and competition moved with more features and a price hike. This is where the Sunny lost its plot. Not as many features on offer and the design started to age. At the moment, it doesn’t  have numbers to justify. As time is passing by, Nissan will have to get an all new Sunny. The 2018 Nissan Sunny is in the making.

This shall be derived from the new Micra, which looks rather sharp. That similar design will be carried forward on the Sunny as well.This new sedan will not be made on an all new platform, it will be made on the CMF-A platform. So, it will be the extended version of the Kwid platform. Renault is also looking at making a compact sedan, SUV and even a seven-seater MUV on this platform.

The 2018 Nissan Sunny will be reviving the brand’s image and will help them get more sales. The Nissan brand has been struggling with sales numbers, especially with the passengers cars, even the Terrano has seen a decline in numbers after the launch of the Terrano facelift also. The new Sunny will have a more versatile platform and offer higher features too.

2018 Nissan Sunny India Launch Date

Nissan seems to have just started working on an all new Sunny. So, it is a bit too early to presume when will this new sedan come into the market. But our reckon is it should be somewhere around late 2018. At the moment the company will be looking at testing it not just in India but even in other developing markets. The new-generation Micra for Europe isn’t being manufactured from India and hence there has been a delay for the Indian market.

New 2018 Nissan Sunny Price in India

There won’t be a major difference in the pricing of the sedan. Nissan has to aggressively price this sedan and even needs numbers. So it will be looking at exporting it to major markets across the world. To begin with, there will be new cars built on this platform. This will be made for other developing markets also. There will be more features on offer. We reckon the price will be about ₹ 7.5 lakhs to ₹ 11 lakhs (on-road). There shall be petrol and diesel engines on offer. Petrol will even have CVT on offer too.

New 2018 Nissan Sunny Specifications

There will no change in the engines. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will continue to offer the same power. This engine will churn about 99bhp of power and about 142Nm of maximum torque. There shall be a five-speed manual transmission and a CVT also. The 2018 Nissan Sunny will have the same engine as the current one. There won’t be any changes in it.

There is also a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This will be producing about 85bhp of power and it will have about 190Nm of maximum torque. A five-speed manual transmission will be offered on it. There is a possibility that the Sunny could see a bump in power to 108bhp. This will help them to enhance the performance. It could have a 6-speed manual transmission. The 85bhp is a better choice for city driving, the need to shift gears isn’t very high.

2018 Nissan Sunny Mileage

The Nissan Sunny will not see a major increase in its performance or even mileage. The petrol should return about 17km/l for the manual and the CVT about 18km/l. These will be the company claimed figures. This will be good enough for a petrol engine of this size.

The diesel shall have about 23km/l. This number will go down if it is more powerful. The 85bhp engine is highly fuel-efficient and even has better performance in city.

New 2018 Nissan Sunny Dimensions

The dimensions of the new 2018 Nissan Sunny will similar for its length. However there will be an increase in its width. The new Sunny will have more width so three people can sit in comfort at the back. As all the new cars are getting wider, we can expect the same from the Sunny as well. The new Sunny will not see a change in its wheelbase. The new Sunny will be competing with the Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Etios and the Fiat Linea when it comes to the pricing. As per the size, it will be longer than the Honda City.

New 2018 Nissan Sunny Features

The new Sunny will come with a lot of new features that weren’t offered before in it. Nissan’s strategy has always been to get new products with the best-in-class features. Last time, Sunny was the first to get push start and stop button, electrically folding mirrors. This one will get cruise control, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers etc. There will be a lot more features like touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

2018 Nissan Sunny Exterior 

The new Sunny will be coming with an all new design. The new-generation design is aggressive and streamlined design. The hood looks more like a cab forward design. There is a bigger front grille and this sort of looks like a smiley. The headlamps are sleek and there is projector headlamps and LEDs. The front fog lamps are rectangular. The fascia looks sporty and appealing. There are splitters under the bumper.

The side profile looks balanced on the Micra and the Sunny should be more balanced too. There will be some subtleness in the design and it will be more sophisticated than sporty. The other important aspect of the Sunny will be its long wheelbase and large size boot too. This will make it an appealing package in this segment. The boot will have tail LEDs replacing the regular bulbs. Nissan has been designing some good cars and this could be even for the Sunny too.

New 2018 Nissan Sunny Interior

The new Sunny 2018 will be based on the same Micra platform. So, this new sedan will have the same dashboard just like the Micra. There is an all new steering wheel with multiple controls. The instrument cluster has twin dials and driver information system. The centre console shall have touchscreen system with maps, reverse camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and there is climate control. There shall also be keyless entry and push start and stop. Dual airbags and ABS will be a standard feature.

In terms of space there will be no issues. The front seats will have good amount of space. At the same time, the rear space will be even better than other sedans. The Sunny will have more than sufficient space. The boot size too will be larger than most of the other sedans in this segment.
