Volkswagen had earlier released a teaser video of the T-Roc, which gave a glimpse of certain features and interiors of this new SUV. The new pictures however, bring more clarity on what to expect from this new vehicle. The T-Roc will is the smallest ever SUV by the German giant. First shown at the Geneva Motor Show, the Volkwagen T-Roc will enter production by the end of 2017 and will be seen on roads by the year end. It is positioned below the Tiguan and is based on the VW Golf and Audi Q2 platform.

The production version looks quite different from the way the concept looked. This a four door compact SUV. It gets a stylish headlamps, a wide grille, LED tail lamps and large foglamps. The T-Roc is an attractive looking SUV. It is unlike any compact SUV and has a good presence.

Volkswagen T-Roc Price

We reckon the price of this new compact SUV should start at about £20,000- £21,000. This shall be the pricing until Britain has to pay an import duty from other European nations (which is 2019). If launched in India, it should be priced around ₹ 15 lakhs to ₹ 20 lakhs. This will be a premium compact SUV.

The Volkswagen T-Roc is a compact SUV, around 4 meters in length. It slightly resembles other VW vehicles, however, it has its own individuality. The wide grille looks very attractive and has the VW logo in the centre. The projector twin headlamps are sleek looking ones. It will have daytime running LEDs too. The stylish bumper has fog lamps placed below. There is scuff plate too at the bottom.  The side is slightly boxy looking and gets some body cladding, attractive alloy wheels and a sloping roofline. The lines that run across the vehicle are crisp.

The rear resembles the Tiguan to an extent. This has a rear intergrated spoiler and looks more rugged than the Tiguan. The rear bumper is stylish with scuff plates at the bottom. Overall, this is a very sporty looking compact SUV. It will be offered in three trim options – Base, Sport and Style. The Sport version will have black interiors and a sporty feel inside, while the Style version will have four colour themed interiors.

On the inside, VW T-Roc follows the Golf design. The layout is very stylish and is full of latest technology. The interior colour theme is dual tone and gets several new features as well. The features list on offer includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster that is an LED screen.

Theirs also a 9.2-inch touchscreen system with all the features like MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay etc. The infotainment system and the instrument cluster are synced for navigation, music extra so the driver doesn’t require to move his/her focus to the centre console. This is also a safety aspect of the SUV.

Its not only the front which will be spacious, the rear seats will have more knee room. The boot space on offer is about 445 litres. The seats have a 60:40 split for greater utility. The Volkswagen T-Roc will offer good comfort even for rear passengers. It will also have rear AC vents and a rear armrest.

Volkswagen T-Roc Engine and Transmission

The engines on offer will be a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and mostly a 1.

4-litre TSI also. The diesel engine range shall include a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesels, depending on the market it is launched in. The 2.0-litre will come with 140bhp and not 177bhp that will be offered on the Tiguan.

This engine will come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This will be offered on entry level variants.  The top variants will get a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. This will also have a 4MOTION AWD and will be the highlight. There are three driving modes also expected to come with this compact SUV – Street, Off-road and Snow. The T-ROC will also get features like  ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control. There is no doubt in the power and drivability of these engines. VW driving dynamics have never been a problem ever.

Volkswagen T-Roc Safety Features

The Volkswagen T-Roc will get safety features such as Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Lane Assist and Front Assist area monitoring system with Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking. Then it also has  adaptive cruise control, rear camera, lane change system including Rear Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, lane keeping system Lane Assist, Park Assist that has a maneuvering brake function, Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist.

Volkswagen T-Roc Launch Date

The new Volkswagen T-Roc should be launched by November this year and the deliveries will begin by December in Europe. There is no indication yet about this SUV coming to India. We don’t think Volkswagen will be able to get this car in the Indian market as it is made on the MQB platform and in India the company might not manufacture its new cars on this platform. This will mean that the company might just struggle to find itself to grow in India unless the new-generation platform is highly localised.
