Suzuki GSX250R to be launched in 2018

Suzuki is revamping its product plan in India. The company is believed to be focussing on higher capacity bikes and scooters. Its also shifting its focus from entry level bikes to larger capacity ones. After the success of the Gixxer 150, Suzuki seems to working on a new 250cc bike for India. This will be the GSX250R. Suzuki is considering this bike to be made in India and also exported to other countries. Thus, it will help Suzuki in enlarging its export portfolio too. The Suzuki GSX250R will be a good offering in the 250cc segment and it will follow the Yamaha Fazer 250 for a full-faired 250cc motorcycle, though it will be a twin-cylinder one. Satoshi Uchida, MD, Suzuki Motorcycle India, has revealed that Suzuki is shifting its focus from the mass market. As per ET Auto, Suzuki’s aim is to reach 10% market share, hence their focus is on premium bikes and also scooters. Uchida has also expressed desire to manufacture the Suzuki GSX250R in India and look at exporting it too, thus, making India a global base for this bike.

Suzuki will be looking at launching this bike towards the second half of 2018. The company is currently looking at localization for the GSX250R. Those seeking affordable performance  bikes are sure to get wooed by this machine, which is internationally acclaimed for its performance. 

Suzuki GSX250R Price in India

The Gixxer SF FI  155cc, is priced just under INR 1 lakh (on-road pricing). Suzuki will look at getting the GSX250R at about ₹ 2.5 lakhs (on-road). This way it can undercut the Yamaha R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300, which are a ot more expensive, due to high import content. The GSX250R, if localized, can be sold at this price point

Based on the Gixxer family, the new GSX250R will be a good option to consider for the 250cc segment. This will have the Suzuki racing livery and it does look fabulous. The new GSX250R should have a large headlamp and a large enough windshield too. The bike has a low seating position and it also has sports bike like pedal positioning.

A twin-cylinder 249cc engine will be powering the Suzuki GSX250R. This will be churning about 35bhp of power and close to 24Nm of maximum torque. It will come mated to   a six-speed box.

The engine will be a high revving one, with linear power instead of the outburst. Most of the power shall be delivered at higher engine speeds. This will make it fun to rev as the motor shall be a highly refined unit. This is good news for twin-cylinder fans.

For a twin-mill, we reckon the mileage of this engine in city conditions will be around 25km/l and it may return upto 30km/l on the highway. The bike focusses more on performance, hence, fuel efficiency is not its forte.
