Maruti Wagon R Diesel is coming! This rumour has been going on the internet for quiet a while. There is only one reason why it should come and multiple on why it won’t make it into production. For all those who have come to this story search on the Wagon R diesel, this won’t happen. The company never announced and it doesn’t seem to come anytime either.

Reasons why Maruti Wagon R Diesel should come

  1. Better mileage and lower running cost. This is the only reason why we can expect to get Wagon R diesel.

Reasons why Maruti Wagon R Diesel won’t come

  1. Price. As there was an increase in price of at least INR 1 lakh, this will be mean a jump in the pricing by at least 30%. This is steep considering the hike for the diesel engine.
  2. City Car: The Wagon R is more of a city car, hence it will have more city driving than on the highway. So, to cover up for the 30% of extra cost, one needs to drive about 60-70 kms a day. Still the period to recover shall be longer.
  3. Diesel ban: The recent happenings where diesel cars were banned has seen a further shift towards buying petrol cars. So, more buyers are picking petrol or instead CNG-powered vehicles.
  4. CNG works better: As majority of the Wagon Rs are driven in the city, Wagon R Diesel is less preferred than the CNG one for many. As CNG is cheaper than diesel and even the difference of initial investment is lower.
  5. Noise: A lot of us do not like the diesel engine noise. Hence, CNG or petrol is a more preferred option than diesel.
  6. Celerio failed: The Celerio was introduced with a diesel engine. However, it failed to impress in sales numbers. Hence, Maruti recently discontinued the Celerio diesel. Now, only the petrol and CNG variants are available.
  7. End of life span: The new Wagon R isn’t too far from launch. The current one will soon be phased out. There have been no talks about the new Wagon R getting diesel. Instead, the company is working on a new seven-door version of the Wagon R. This will mean a seven-seater, three row Wagon R shall be offered too.

We aren’t certain about that. There could be a diesel 7 Seater? We aren’t sure. If it comes, this will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine. This engine will churn about 75bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. This engine will be coming with a five-speed manual and AMT, if at all it is offered.
