Countries that accpet Indian Driving License

USA

The United States Of America is one of those countries wherein India’s driving license is valid. However, you can use India’s driving license for up to one year only. Apart from that, you must carry an attested 1-94 form which proves your entry in the USA. Also, make sure that your driving license is printed in English only.

Canada 

The second country where you can drive a car with India’s driving license is Canada. However, unlike the USA, India’s driving license is valid for only two months in Canada. And again, it must be printed in English.

Germany 

Want to drive on the famous AutoBahn where the speed limit is the sky? Well, you can if you have your India’s driving license with you! Germany allows you to drive with an India issued license for up to 2 months and you can enjoy driving on AutoBahn. Now although an English printed driving license is allowed, do carry a photocopy of your license, printed in German language.

UK

Fourth country on the list where you can drive a car with India’s driving license is the UK. Just like the USA, the validity for India issued driving license is up to 1 year. What else you need to know is that your driving license should be valid for at least a year. Also, the driving license must be printed in English.

Switzerland 

Known for its natural beauty, you will enjoy being driven around the roads of Switzerland. But if you want to drive yourself then you certainly can as Switzerland is another such country where you can use an India issued driving license. All you need is an Indian issued driving license printed in English and you can enjoy driving in Switzerland for up to one year.

Countries that don’t accept Indian Driving License

Apart from these, UAE and Japan are two countries where an Indian issued driving license is not valid. So what if you still want to drive in those countries? Well, you will have to carry an International Driving License with you. For International Driving License, all you need to do is visit the local RTO, submit documents like valid Indian driving license, passport, visa & air ticket, fill the Form 4-A, pay the charges and the International Driving License will be issued.
