New Toyota Fortuner – 48V Mild-hybrid Technology

Toyota mild hybrid

Just a few days back, Toyota launched Hilux with a 48V mild hybrid technology. It comes with the same 2.8-litre diesel engine which also powers the popular Fortuner. Talking about the new mild-hybrid technology, Toyota is aiming for more fuel efficiency (upto 10%) with enhanced performance by using a 48V system and small electric motors. The brand believes that the mild-hybrid technology will also enhance the off-road capabilities of their SUVs by adding features like regenerative braking on downslopes , better water wading capabilities, etc..

Fortuner Next!

2024 Toyota leader

Toyota South Africa has already confirmed that both Fortuner and Hilux will receive the mild-hybrid technology. And as we can see, the Hilux has been equipped with mild-hybrid tech and will soon be offered with the Fortuner as well. Why Toyota Fortuner? So as we all know, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Fortuner share the same platform, engine options and transmission options. Also, Toyota will try to offer the new Fortuner with enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. In fact, even the upcoming Toyota Prado will share the same powertrain, including the same mild-hybrid system.

Powerful engine for Fortuner

Toyota has equipped the mild-hybrid system on the same 2.8-litre engine with 201bhp and 500Nm torque for the Hilux. However, the story with the new Fortuner will be different. Just a few months back, Toyota launched the new Fortuner with more power and more features in Thailand. Talking about the power figures of the new Fortuner, it gets the same 2.8-litre diesel engine which now produces 224bhp and 550Nm of peak torque. In India, we will likely receive the more powerful Fortuner and Toyota will likely add their mild-hybrid technology to this Fortuner.  However, a new gen Fortuner is on cards and we can see that happening very soon.

2024 Toyota Fortuner – What Else to expect?

Other than the updated engine, Toyota has launched the new Fortuner with an addition of new features. The list of new features included – TPMS, a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging. Other than that, Toyota has not made any changes to the interiors or the exterior of the Fortuner.

Launch

We are expecting Toyota to launch the updated Fortuner in the first half of 2024. The new Fortuner will come with more power, a mild-hybrid system, and few new features. All these upgrades will surely take the pricing through the roof.

  • As Fortuner owner, I would like a better quality touch screen, more modern interior, extra USB ports wireless charging, and toss out that 1990’s clock. And PLEASE improve the 7 seater configuration, those hanging seats are a pain! Better fuel efficiency and water wading is great, if it doesn’t drive the cost through the roof. Fortuners are awesome!

  • Tbh im not expecting fortuner to have the stuff like the Indonesian fortuners, I mean they’re a whole other level but this new engine seems like a new good feel that we might get if we use it, Let’s see what happens
