Should a Nexon buyer wait for Tata Curvv?

Tata Nexon has been ruling the SUV segment for a while now. It is not just our belief but the sales figure reflects the fact. In fact the 2023 facelift upped the game for Nexon to a great extent, thanks to unique design, upmarket interiors and long list of features. Now very soon, Tata Motors will be launching the Tata Curvv SUV to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta. Tata Curvv will be bigger than Nexon, offer more features, but will likely be based on the same platform. Even most of the design elements will be shared with the Nexon. So in such a situation, should you buy the Nexon or instead wait for the upcoming Tata Curvv?

What do we know about the Tata Curvv

Design

Honestly, not much has been hidden about the Tata Curvv. In the Bharat Mobility Show 2023, Tata Motors showcased the Curvv concept which looked like a near production model. Upfront the SUV carries design elements of newer Tata SUVs. The LED DRL setup and the headlamps look similar to the Neoxn while the front grille looks similar to what is offered with the Tata Harrier. The side profile however is unique for the Tata Curvv. The SUV boasts a coupe-design and so gets a sloping roofline. The rear also looks pretty neat and aggressive, thanks to the rear spoiler and connected LED tail lamps.

Nexon and Curvv – Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, Tata Curvv measures 4308mm in length, 1810mm in width, and 1630mm in height. Whereas the wheelbase measures at 2560mm. Compared to the Nexon, Tata Curvv is 313mm longer, 6mm wider, and 10mm taller. Whereas the wheelbase is 62mm more than the Neoxn’s 2498mm.

Interior

On the inside, according to spy shots, Tata Curvv will likely get a similar interior to the Nexon. The dashboard layout and the door pad design could be very similar to Nexon’s. In fact one of the spy shots revealed purple colour on the door pads which hints at Nexon’s purple persona theme. That said, the Curvv will probably offer more features. It is said that Tata Curvv could get a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, 4-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, touch based AC controls, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-speaker JBL sound system, and even head-up display.

Engine Specifications

As far as the powertrain options go, Tata could offer either 1.2-litre TGDi engine or 1.5-litre TGDi engine, along with 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2 TGDi produces 123bhp & 225Nm torque while the 1.5 TGDi will produce 168bhp & 280Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel however is the same that Nexon offers. The 1.5-litre diesel produces 113bhp and 260Nm of peak torque. In terms of transmission options, Tata could offer a 6-speed manual, 7-speed DCA, and 6-speed AMT gearboxes.

Nexon and Curvv – Differences

So what are the key differences between Tata Nexon and Tata Curvv? Well, one of the biggest differences lies between the design approach of both these SUVs. Unlike the Nexon’s typical SUV design, the Curvv boasts a coupe design which is expected to attract many buyers. The other big difference is the segment of both these SUVs. Tata Nexon is a sub-4 metre SUV whereas the Curvv is longer and overall bigger. The Curvv will be positioned a segment above the Tata Nexon. Finally, the pricing will play a key role in differentiating factors. Currently, Tata Nexon is priced between Rs 9.61 lakh to Rs 18.84 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). On the other hand, Tata Curvv is expected to be priced between Rs 12.50 lakh to Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Nexon and Curvv – Wait for Curvv?

Well, if the budget is not the problem, you can definitely wait for the Curvv to get launched. Also do keep in mind that the launch could happen in the second half of 2024. It will come as EV first and later in petrol/diesel avatar. However, if you are in a hurry, you can go for Nexon blindly. Except for space, design, and some features, Tata Nexon has a similar design and interiors as the Curvv. In its segment, the Nexon is a unique looking SUV with an aggressive stance and feature rich cabin!
